Itchy boobs

I have extreamly sensitive boobs they get super itchy all the time and frequently feel sore. I have had a check at the breast clinic who found nothing sinister but gave no advice. They feel like they did when the milk came when I breast fed 20+ years ago. Hot, stretched, itchy and I get very dry skin on my nipples.
Google leads me to pregnancy changes or cancer and neither of these apply.

Is this a peri menopause thing? Not sure I am there yet but age group implies its on the horizon as I am approaching 50. I just need some relief. I have tried numerous moisturisers and they help for a few days and then I need to change.

I have been trying to get to a doctor but havent been able to get an appointment for months and if there is something I can do to help symptoms or this is normal then I dont want to waste NHS time.

I have got much worse eczema since starting menopause. Sometimes I get it on my breasts - it seems to move around my body for no apparent reason! I find Oilatum in my bath water helps a lot.

I used to have terrible eczema all over my body as a child maybe its coming back. need to try the Oilatum!

A friend recommended this one to me. This helped me for about a week and then seemed to stop sadly.

I've been to the gp this week and said that my nipples are itchy. I've also got tenderness on one side so I'm being sent for a mammogram just to be on the safe side. The doctor wasn't slightly concerned tbh. I think it's menopausal.

I've had this since the start of peri and the best thing is a bra that is boob shaped. I am down to one style that works. If I wear the wrong one, it causes problems immediately.

Also tried massage, ibuprofen, and thrush cream.

NCTDN · 17/02/2023 10:02

@Melroses what type do you mean? I find so many bras uncomfortable so would love a link.

ACurlyWurlyTail · 17/02/2023 10:07

@Melroses interestingly out of desperation this morning I used the last smidge of canesten cream 1% on my worst nipple and it feels a lot better, it must be suppressing the itch. maybe this is the 'cure' I need. Also, different bras do make a difference to the pain but its like shifting sand, what works one day will aggravate the next

I have Fantasie Rebecca which suits my shape, although not cheap. I have had to give up on anything balconette or uplifting or that pushes into any sort of a shape. Even the traditional looking full cup ones didn't work for me.

I did find a condition online where the cells in the duct are drying and atrophying and causing irritation but I can't remember what it is called. I have had several mammograms and a thorough recall session. It is the side which caused problems with bf - I even thought I might be getting mastitis again at one point.

It is funny how the canesten seems to work. I think it is set off by hormonal blips but the sensible bra seems to avoid it happening most of the time.
