I’m a first time mum, but also have Autism. I have history of dyspareunia (ie tensing up during sex because of bleeding) I’m now 7 weeks post partum and thought they’d do it at the 6 week check up. I hinted because I have had odour and felt uncomfortable there, it was a male GP. He never took me up or said what it could be.

I then said could I make an app with another doctor, female. They then gave me a doctor who is in training and has come from sexual health nursing and gynaecology.
The app he just kept asking me questions, and repeating the same ones. No examination and in past I have had swabs so that’s what I was expecting. I did hint at swab and he never.

When I was still under midwifes until day 5 discharge. They checked but now I’m sort of feeling a bit nervous and not knowing if healed - and what odour is and the discomfort.

Would I be best phoning sexual health or try another GP or is practice nurse best - Feeling like I just want reassurance before resuming as not had sex since birth. The GP did reassure me that it couldn’t be sti which I wouldn’t expect anyways but they said they test for them in pregnancy so thats ruled out?

I'd make another GP appt and request a female GP, then insist on them examining you. It definitely needs checking out!

Could it be BV if you haven’t had sex? How would it be an sti…

You can buy tests in the chemist to check at home.

It was just he was able to rule that out which I knew but the other things I didn’t get certainty over

OP I’m not sure what you mean by hinting, but stop hinting and tell them your concerns. Be explicit because no one else will advocate for you. Tell them you are worried the wound smells a bit funny and want it checked.

You could have an infection - it’s a wound and prone to infections just like any other wound.

You need to stop hinting and mentioning and ask for it to be checked, if you’re not able to do that yourself can you get someone else to? Mum or friend or your partner?
