My periods are just not normal anymore

Hello!!
I hope everyone is doing well! :)

I posted back way in December about a really funny period that I had that month

It started on CD20 and ended 11-12 days later, and I got my next period on January 10th which was CD28. I thought great, I just had a weird period. This is what I thought on period day 1. That period actually lasted 10 days when usually my periods for the past two years before all of this lasted 4-5 days and were extremely heavy (I took medication for it).
The December and January periods were long but no where near as heavy as to what I’m used to.

Anyway I saw a doctor who recommended to get the coil which is scheduled (but I’m petrified and you’ll come to learn why) and did a blood test for FBC etc.

my results came back and I’m B12 and VitD deficient so I’m taking meds for it but I asked the nurse if it’s the reason why my periods have been funny and she said yes (baring in mind I’ve had both of these defiencys before and at the same time and I’ve not experienced this before)

Anyway back to my periods, this months period has just started, 2nd February on CD24.

It’s gone from CD20 to CD27 to CD24.
my periods have gone completely out of whack and lasting between 10-11 days (who knows how long this one will be)

They we’re always consistent with 28-30 but they are just completely unpredictable at this point.

Im literally bleeding for nearly two weeks then not for another two weeks and then bleeding again for nearly two weeks.

I'm pretty sure it’s not about that and it’s about how long the cycle days are which restart on the first day of your period and I’m sure mine are still classed as ‘normal’ but when your period is nearly two weeks long it’s like I’m never getting a break and you can really feel the difference.

I don’t have iron deficiency anemia and it’s a miracle at this point that I don’t have it because they are not light for the whole duration

TMI

im just not losing massive golf sized blood clots (GP does know about this)

my question is has anyone ever experienced this? Is it really due to B12 and VitD. I’m really reluctant to get the coil because I’m worried it’s covering up an underlying condition but I just don’t quite understand what is going on??

Thank you for reading this far, I know it’s an awful lot lol, I’m also 25 and I’ve had children.

I would push for further investigations. Don't be fobbed off.

Sorry you're going through this:(

Sorry you are going through this!🌹

A lot of women have experienced disruption / changes to their period following the Covid vacs - could that be a possible explanation?

LarryStylinson · 03/02/2023 02:50

Yes to a similar experience with periods that eventually became 3-4 weeks on, a few days off. Had B12 deficiency and PCOS picked up - the B12 injections helped. The smallest of changes to any level in your body can throw your period off.
Please go with your instinct and get more investigation before masking with the coil. If it's not normal for you, it's not normal.

Findyourneutralspace · 03/02/2023 03:25

How recently did you have your children? Cycles often take a while to settle back into a routine post birth, but if it’s been a while you’d come to know what’s normal.
Another thought was Covid jabs which seem to have mucked up a few people’s cycles.
Id ask for more investigation if it’s worrying you. It’s quite disconcerting if your cycle goes haywire for no apparent reason.
What contraception have you been using? Could it be that?

LadyJ2023 · 03/02/2023 04:27

Sounds familiar all year last year. Turned out eventually it was the contraceptives my body did not agree with them, eventually they ran out beginning of December and gone from 2 half weeks a month to all last year to normal 3 days December, January...such a relief but it took a specalist visit and he said both contraceptives, pill, injection were basically being rejected by my body so to stop them and sure enough once they ran out everything became normal. They've offered coil but unfortunately we have not 1 but 2 females in my family who ended up with ruptured womb for one and bladder area for another so never would consider it for myself

They gave me folic acid for the B12, my vaccines were last in august 2022 and my last baby was 5 years ago, currently my period is very very light which is unusal for this day.. I’m going to get another GP app because something is wrong
my last baby was also 5 years ago

Just to add aswell

im currently on no contraception aswell because usually it causes me to non stop bleed and that’s what I’m worried about aswell with the coil

I would push to for an ultrasound to make sure you haven't got fibroids as they can cause heavy and irregular bleeding, particularly spotting mid-cycle.
Also, how old are you? I'm 45 and my periods have been going haywire for the last couple of years which I'm putting down to peri-menopause (among other symptoms).

Good - do push this. Changes to periods need to be fully investigated

I find this fascinating. My periods had changing patterns my whole life. I still think I'm more normal than not.
