Blood test results - iron levels ( predominantly)

tothelefttotheleft · 26/01/2023 17:21

Serum iron level- 3
Haematocrit-0.344
Mean corpusc haemoglobin-26.7

Lymphocyte count- 0.4
Eosinophil- 0

Any advice on these test results?

I'm also having a ovarian scan because I feel full despite not eating much.

And because I have had some bleeding.

Your ferritin is very low and your haematocrit is just on the lower end of the accepted level (0.36-0.46)
I don't know if you read my post (in the previous one where you said you'd be starting this post) but at its lowest my ferritin was 3ug/L where the range is 11.0-307.0 and my haematocrit was 0.22L/L where the range is 0.36-0.46, I don't have what my Mean corpusc haemoglobin is though, but a quick Google says they are considered very high if over 34pg. This last one shows the average amount of hemoglobin you have in your blood cells which carry oxygen to your organs.
You've not said how old you are and what the some bleeding is (are you post menopausal and therefore an unexpected bleed?)
All the bloods say to me they concerned about anaemia, but with the feeling full when not eating much, it's best to get it all looked at and for the drs to give you the full picture of what is going on.
I hope it is something easily treated 💐

@longtompot

I'm 50. No signs of peri menopause.

I had a period. It seemed to stop and then I bed as heavily as period again. For weeks.

What did you do for your low iron ?

I can't take iron tablets as they really upset my stomach so I have had iron infusions (3 over the past 3 years) and two units of blood via transfusion last year along with the iron. Gynae organised for me to have the transfusion after the infusion.
The follow up blood test my ferritin was 14 so just above the accepted low end and my haemoglobin was 114, so again on the low end. After reading my results they are all still very low, so if I don't get the hysterectomy this year I'll need yet more infusions etc :(
My anemia is due to extremely heavy periods and passing huge clots due to polyps and fibroids. I'm 51 and have had this issue for the past 10 years on and off (off when I had a massive polyp removed under ga. The surgeon was amazed at how big it was and came to tell me!)

It’s a slightly random selection of the results that you’ve posted (and doesn’t include the ferritin that pp says is low!). They need interpreting in the context of the whole set of results and any previous tests you’ve had. The person who ordered the tests is probably in the best position to explain them.

@Greybeardy I just posted the ones that came back as abnormal.

Apologies. I misread and assumed serum was ferritin.
I did say best to see the specialists to get the full picture of what is going on.
