Is this PCOS?

I've always been very regular but in the last 6-12 months or so I've experienced different issues. Firstly I noticed blood at different times in the month, when I wasn't on or near my period. I thought maybe it was haemorrhoids. Then I missed the odd period - never happened before. Also have had varying light periods and very heavy periods, maybe a bit longer than normal. But the last period lasted nearly 2 weeks, my boobs hurt/swelled up and I had period pain for the first time ever. So I'd like to figure out what's going on and put a stop to it.

I haven't lost or put on weight in the past year but I am obese and have been for the past few years, BMI of 32 I think. I'm 35. I've had interstitial cystitis for a few years on and off. No family history of early menopause or PCOS.

I was thinking this was peri-menopause but I've also seemingly been growing a beard, so I discovered PCOS... Do you think it is PCOS?

I am on a diet to lose weight now, so if it's PCOS, would the symptoms subside as I lose weight?

Mainly - Is there any point at all in my going to the GP - if I can even get an appointment, if I'm just going to be told to lose weight which I'm doing anyway?

I'd also be interested in advice or tips if people have any. Thanks!

I would get checked out and get a diagnosis - you may need hormone tests and/or a scan...

I’ve had PCOS diagnosed since I was 15, so nearly 20 years and other than the hair growth your symptoms aren’t typically what I experience or have seen mentioned in any of the groups I’m in, but mainly the fact that it would be unusual to get to your 30s and not have any problems until now would make me think it’s unlikely? Certainly sounds hormone related but you’d really need to see an endo and a radiographer to rule things out and get a diagnosis x

@MyWillyBrokeTheDogBowl That's really useful to know, thanks. I'll try to make an appointment
