Biopsy Result

I had a cervical polyp removed in Nov and a endometrial biopsy while while he was up there (family history) and I was told the result should be with me in a couple of weeks. The weeks went on and I assumed with the overstretched NHS and Christmas that no news was good news and a bit of delay was because it was ok and not a priority task on someone's To Do List. I chased it up anyway for peace of mind, and today I have received a letter for another hospital appointment. Now I presume that it is bad news after all. : (

Can anyone one offer any insight, experience, or reason for being called back for a further appointment when it wasn't bad news? Could they have possibly lost the sample and just want to do it again?

If it was really bad news I imagine they would be wanting to see you asap.
How far away is the appointment?

I've been where you are twice

First time I got a call from a nurse cheerily telling me it was malignant and getting me booked in

Second time was an appt to say there was no cancer (this was yesterday!) and to discuss what else it could be

I know samples are reviewed by two people. Given the speed of the results when I had cancer, I think if the first viewer sees malignancy, the second viewing is fast. If not, it goes into the pile

Try not to worry. If the worst happens, this is very VERY treatable x

DH had a follow up appointment after a biopsy and when he went the consultant just gave him a prescription for antibiotics, which really could have been dealt with over the phone and he could have got the infection which was found, sorted earlier. I hope everything turns out well at your appointment.

In just over a week.

If you have a number you could try calling and ask if you need to bring a friend? Even at the height of covid DH was allowed support when he was given his diagnosis. Good luck, I hope it's just something that can be easily treated.

I had endometrial cancer in 2020. I had a biopsy on the Wednesday and had a call to go and see them 10 days later. I had it all taken out - womb, tubes and ovaries - less than two weeks after that. Even if it is bad news OP, it's very treatable. Good luck x

Yes, I think I will give them a ring on Mon just to see if I can find out what exactly the app't is for. If he just wants to ask if everything is ok since the polyp removal, surely we can do that on the phone.

@FestivePinkFairy Thanks, that's reassuring. My Grannie had endometrial cancer in her late 60s or early 70s and she lasted well into her 90s so I am hoping that if it is bad news it can all be whipped out asap and it will be grand.

I had a very large ovarian cyst removed when I was 30. Just before I went in for the op, the surgeon did a scan and told me, 'whoops, looks like we might have made a mistake, it now appears to be looking like cancer; if you were 40 we'd go in right now and clean you out - ovaries, womb, cervix, but since you are only 30 we'll just get this for now and wait for results' and I said, 'Do it! Take it all out now, I'm done having kids, the husband has had a vasectomy, just take it all now.' But she wouldn't and all was good, but I am very sorely wishing now that it had all been done then.

Hi, I'm currently in the same situation where I've had an ovary out with a cysts. I've had a call today to make an appointment and the doc has given me an appointment for Friday! I'm kind of freaked out as I'm thinking it's bad news.
I'm only 35 and my ca125 is about 40.

Ok that's slightly elevated but you're young and it could be diverticulitis, endometriosis or other things causing the level to be raised
