Periods and fibroids

Hoping for someone to tell me this is completely fine…
Pre kids I used to have the most unbearable pain with my periods, I would be almost crying with it and unable to move for a few hours every month. Fortunately after having kids there is virtually no pain at all however it feels like it’s getting heavier and heavier each time. Last period I had to keep changing my trousers, this time, when I went to get out of bed, so much blood came gushing out by the time I made it to the bathroom it was running down my legs. I had never had that before. When pregnant it was found I had a few fibroids but I know that most women have them. Should I be worried about how heavy the periods are or is it ok? I am fine in myself, usual energy etc..

@roundbackwiththerestoftheoids I guess maybe it depends on the result! I’ve found that when looking at treatment, the doctors particularly at the hospital wouldn’t take my word for it but needed facts - if I could show for instance that my haemoglobin was 130 last week and 110 now, they’d accept I’d had a significant bleed. Otherwise I couldn’t prove what was going on. So I was always trying to get more tests so I knew where I was and could discuss in their language. I guess it might help in the long term to show a trend of falling iron if it carries on.

I had symptoms I had no idea were due to anaemia and put down to age and/or perimenopause - mild palpitations, poor fingernail quality, bad skin, thinning hair - that are all gone now my iron levels are better. I wish I’d known sooner, is all. But you know your body better than anyone so I’m sure you’re probably right 💕

I am wondering now if I should get the blood test. It’s been worse than ever this time, I’ve changed the super absorbent tampon 6 times so far today and I feel like death. Just ordered some microgynon from boots online doctor because I don’t think I can do this again next month!

When I first had this happening, about 10 or so years ago, I made a diary. I wrote it down on graph paper, highlighting the days I was bleeding, the days it was heavy & light, and the days of no bleeding I kept blank, and I did this for about a year. It was very apparent looking at that there was an issue and I think that helped the gp also see there was an issue & I then got my referral.

I would definitely get tested for anaemia and ask for a gynae referral. You have more than enough symptoms for a referral!

Thank you. I think I will!
