44, no period for 7 weeks - is that me done?

Usually every 28 days on the dot

DH has had the snip and we've not had PIV sex for ages so not pregnant

I've gone from being certain my period would start by lunch time on day 28 (very lucky, I know) to constantly worrying I'll be caught unawares and leak

Anyone had similar?

Yes. During peri I could be miss a month, be bang on 28 days or even have 2 periods in one month.
It keeps you on your toes that’s for sure!

Eatentoomanyroses · 17/12/2022 19:40

I’m 38 and just had a run of 8 weeks with no period. Got it this week though. Think you can have gaps without in necessarily being menopause related. My mum was fifties before hers started going

GoingOnce · 17/12/2022 19:43

I bet your period will arrive in a week’s time meaning you’ve skipped a month. That’s been happening to be for the last couple of years. I’ll have 2/3 normal ones then skip a month. The run-up to actually menopause can take years.

I’m 45 and the irregularity started when I was about 42/43. It’s perimenopause (which I hadn’t even heard of until fairly recently!)

AnyFucker · 17/12/2022 19:45

I doubt it very much, sorry

Baconand · 17/12/2022 19:47

Yes. I am 44, usually regular as clockwork but nothing so far this month and day 33 now. Not pregnant.
But this happened once before 18 months ago and I had bloods recently that show still
ovulatIng so it’s definitely not the end. Just the start of irregularities and changes.

Baconand · 17/12/2022 19:48

Should have said, I had a baby at 41 so up
until recency fertility was doing fine! But definitely in the start of peri

Fuckitydoodah · 17/12/2022 19:50

Have you had covid in the last few months? Hasn't there been reports of it messing with lots of women's cycles.

Babdoc · 17/12/2022 19:52

There will be nothing for months, until you are lulled into not carrying any sanpro with you. Then it will arrive at the most inconvenient moment. In my case while on a tour of an Italian city in a heatwave and a pale lemon dress…. Grin

DramaAlpaca · 17/12/2022 19:58

Unlikely at 44. Possible, but unlikely. Gaps of a couple of months are normal, followed by another period two weeks later if my experience is anything to go by. I was like you, OP, had a 28 day cycle I could time perfectly, then at 43/44 my cycle started to become erratic and unpredictable. I got a Mirena at 46 and it stopped my periods completely, I never had another one.

Watto1 · 17/12/2022 20:02

It may be the end but equally it may not. About 18 months ago I went 10 weeks without a period. I was practically hanging out the bunting and throwing a party! But unfortunately since then they have gone back to being as regular as clockwork Sad. I’m 49.

Britinme · 17/12/2022 20:04

It took six or seven years for me between my periods starting to be less regular (though mine got closer together rather than further apart for the first couple of years of that). After missing a period for the first time, it was another five before I finished completely, when I was 55.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 17/12/2022 20:24

I went for almost a year and then had a period. You need to wait for longer than seven weeks before concluding you’re post-menopause.

Britinme · 17/12/2022 20:38

I think I read that it should be a year without a period before you should conclude that you're through with the whole business of periods.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/12/2022 20:40

Almost certainly not - it will arrive when you least expect it so be prepared at all times!

So far you have just skipped a period.

I missed 3 periods at 52 after COVID and thought that was the beginning of menopause. Sadly not

This is me now. Periods come and go as they please!
