Hi ladies
I’m 46 and just really worried about up coming laparoscopic hysterectomy due to heavy prolonged periods/ anemia in next few months.
did you keep cervix or not . Does it affect sex/orgasm? Any other sexual changes.Do you still have premenstrual symptoms ( sore boobs mood swings gas etc) after hysterectomy .
how long is hospital stay. Any complications . Would you recommend it over abalation. Thank you so very much in advance for your replies! From a very confused and worried lady.

I had my cervix removed but kept my ovaries. The hysterectomy was due to fibroid. Well, one fibroid but it was huge. While I don't have a family history of cervical cancer, it does mean the risk is eliminated plus I don't need smears. (Doesn't stop NHS England writing to me regularly to remind me I haven't had one for a while. )
I admit i haven't had much libido since, though. Well none to tell the truth. I think that's the menopause kicking in as well.

If your cervix is healthy, personally I wouldn’t have it removed.

I think with a lot of studies and evidence it helps making a general choice, but if you’re one of the people that ends up with a more negative experience then it’s little comfort that in general people don’t have issues with it.

people here have told you their experiences and it’s really helpful, but it’s you that had to live with it.

Seeing as someone has revived this thread - how did it go @Shazzy786 ?

Hope it went well? What did you choose to do in the end?

So sorry for late reply, have been all over the place last year or so! The op went really very well no complications at all, was told womb was size of small watermelon! Kept my cervix in the end! Recovery was good a lot of gas pains for first few days. I was up and out shopping slowly obviously in 5 days! Very good family support, more than 18 monthes on I feel it was the right decision, no difference at all in the bedroom department in fact better than before op as was very painful due to womb size! Again I’m so sorry ladies, I have had the most busiest time ever! Wish you all going through same situation all the best and seriously I believe keeping the cervix was the right decision in the end! Good luck To You All!

Thank You so much, I know I’m probably too late in helping you decide, but honestly keeping the cervix is the best option as a lot of the women in recovery I spoke to kept theirs too! No difference in the bedroom department whatsoever! Maybe first few times it wasn’t the same but honestly over a few weeks after recovery of 6 weeks no difference at all! Feels like nothing is missing except the ballooned up belly! Again I’m really very sorry, I’ve had to deal with a daughter’s wedding,1 month after op! helping with bringing into the world and looking after 2 beautiful grand children and a few good holidays! I wish you all the best in your heath and future!
