Worried about what breast Dr said

Few days ago I went for non related 6 months follow up appointment to Breast clinic for different breast issue.
I was to be discharged from the clinic when I asked the consultant to check my breast, she said hop on the coach and started performing a examination.
in the middle of it she stopped and started to dig deep inside my breast tissue around my right site, kept saying : your boobs are so lumpy.
This gave me a huge anxiety.
Then she asked me to change position to lay down and kept examining.
Then she stopped and she said I will need a ultrasound as they is some thickness.
I had Mamogram and ultrasound in June where they found few cysts/ fybroadenomas and three weeks ago I had a private breast ultrasound I paid for myself which showed none of significant of what she mentioned.
Now I’m absolutely terrified what she found, is it possible that something would so significantly changed in those 3 weeks?
She said the ultrasound will be in some weeks as they have a huge backlog even if she marks it urgent.
She also said that normally cysts are on both sites and it’s only on one side?
im 49 and probably in peri menopause, still having periods.
so worried now.

I would not worry about it too much as your other ultrasound was so recent

Breast tissue can change so much during cycles

Look on it as a good double check

@jackstini thank you.
I know, but I’m have health anxiety about my breast and I now I worry that perhaps not all was visible on that ultrasound ? As if she could feel something that means something must be there then..
I know my boobs are generally lumpy, always were, however I don’t find helpful when the Dr says that like that, it makes me very anxious-as lumpy=Lots of lumps..

Hope the appointment comes through soon, as it's worrying you

In case it helps, I had a papilloma that was not found via hand examining or a mammogram, but via ultrasound. The consultant said an ultrasound was the surest method to see everything

Thank you.

Getting absolutely anxious and driving myself mad.
I can’t stop thinking what she could feel this week and it wasn’t there visible 3 three weeks ago on the private ultrasound.
The private ultrasound said an occasional random cyst of size 3mm - even if it is that, could not be palpable much really?

A consultant should have a prettgood idea from a thorough exam whether it is likely to be sinister lumps. I suspect they had a very thorough poke and prod to be fairly certain the lumpiness was just that, rather than a carcinoma. If she thought it was a cancer you would have been on a very rapid pathway and that would have been discussed.
You probably need to get your anxiety treated rather than frequently attending breast clinics and not believing what your are told.

Lumpy doesn't equal cancer or anything sinister - mine are awful at certain times of the month!

Having a pretty much all clear 3 weeks ago is hugely reassuring, I honestly would try not to worry.

Littlemissprosecco · 03/12/2022 17:22

I’ve been diagnosed with fibrocystic breast. It just means lumpy!!
At certain times of the month they are lumpier and thicker than at other times. Over the last three years I’ve had seven cysts drained. Everything has always been fine. I’ve been told having these lumps doesn’t increase your chances of anything nasty, but you have to keep checking as things can be easier to miss.

@CaronPoivre
i was sent the breast clinic for a different unrelated issue I went to GP with, however the GP immediately sent me to breast clinic without even looking on me, I wasn’t that keen to go at all, telling her I went few months ago, she was having none of it.p and referred me straight away.
In regards of the rapid scan, here is not rapid even in absolutely necessary situation.
I knew about someone who had BC and had to wait 5 weeks for a scan to get diagnosed.
They have a huge waiting times here even if suspicious of BC.

@DuvetQueen1 thank you. It’s just if there was nothing visible 3 weeks ago, I wonder what she felt now..
