Ovarian cancer - I think I have all the symptoms and scared

On 17th November I had pink spotting after intercourse with my husband. This was unusual for me so the next day I went to the docs and he sent me to get swabbed by the nurse for BV. The results came back negative but the nurse said she could see cervical erosion on my cervix and that would explain the spotting. Two weeks on and now after sec there is a lot of bleeding not just a little bit like the first time.

I Have a 10 month old and after BF had my first period at the start of October. The cycle lasted 41 days but okay as I know periods can be sporadic after BF.

since my periods started again I’ve had almost daily niggly period pain on my left side - sometimes only twinges but I know it’s there.

the last 3 weeks I’ve noticed that when I have to wee, I have to go. It’s like instant and have had to start wearing a pad when I’m out just in case.

I’ve got zero appetite- I’m barely eating one meal a day at the minute. When I do eat I’m usually okay to finish the meal but I can’t eat the volumes I normally can. This has been going on for about 3/4 weeks.

Im bloated - not all the time, but after I eat it lasts for a good long while after.

and to top it off I’m now constipated - I haven’t been able to go today at all and only a bit yesterday.

on the 23rd my dr referred me to the gynaecology dept at my local hospital and I’m waiting on an appt for a scan. The letter just says if you haven’t heard from us by 17th Jan - call us 🤯

I went back to my docs on Tuesday (saw a diff doc) about my bladder control or lack of, and he’s put me on a short course of antibiotics to rule
out a water infection.

im 37 with a 10 month old and everything I have as a symptom is on the list for ovarian cancer. It’s all come on so suddenly in the last Two weeks.

shall I go back to the docs tomorrow to tell them about my constipation and bloating? Shall I tell them I think it might be ovarian cancer and I want further tests? What do I ask for?

im going to book a private gynaecology scan tomorrow and get that in asap.

I’m so scared.

Don't get ahead of yourself and move away from Google. Everything on there always leads back to cancer when in reality your symptoms are fairly generic and could be any number of things.

But I do think you should push for quicker investigation. And booking a private scan in the meantime probably is a good idea. The peace of mind will be worth every penny.

The NHS is struggling and waiting times are long but sometimes doctors are quick to fob you off, especially if you're young. Keep battling but try not to be unduly worried until you know more.

MammaWeasel · 30/11/2022 22:30

Yes, go back to your GP and tell him or her everything.

Blargh · 30/11/2022 22:34

Bless you, try not to let your thoughts run ahead of you. Our female reproductive system is a complicated thing! It could be anything, even something small. Be sure to talk to your doctor about all your concerns and the private tests are a good idea.

MaverickSnoopy · 30/11/2022 22:34

I was worried that I might have ovarian cancer having some of the symptoms and knowing someone diagnosed with it. I spoke to the GP who arranged a scan within a week. I was possibly very lucky but i would definitely tell the gp of your new symptoms and your concerns.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 30/11/2022 22:37

I agree with what ladymarmiteee says. Definitely get it thoroughly investigated, and make sure the doctors know about all your symptoms - but don't drive yourself mad googling. I had a 7cm ovarian cyst and similar symptoms to those you describe - to cut a long story short, the cyst, though painful, was benign and it was all related to undiagnosed endometriosis.

A private appointment is an excellent idea if you can afford it/are insured - I was fortunate to be able to take this route as I have cover through my work - I had an hour of a consultant being able to look at my problems and medical history in detail, rather than the rushed appointments you get on the NHS (not their fault, I know they are stretched).

It could be any number of things, so do try not to worry; you are doing all you can by getting it checked out as quickly as possible.

gemloving · 30/11/2022 22:40

Oh gosh the panic. I can feel it as I used to get so scared. It's as if someone is taking the air from your lungs. Ok, deep breaths and try to focus. Meditation can help.

Could the barely eating be in line with your anxiety about having cancer as well as your anxiety? Anxiety can bring on a range of symptoms. Cervical erosion is not necessarily linked to cancer. I am not saying I don't take you seriously but given how quickly it's all happening, I wouldn't be too concerned if nothing happened before. It's good to get it all checked. Cervical cancer is a very slow growing cancer but try to push for an appointment earlier, maybe go private if it would ease your mind but 6 weeks would not make a huge difference if it was cancer (which I don't think it is) except to your own mental state and that's very important when you have a 10 months old.

You're still fairly young and smear was clear which is very positive.

Sending lots of love xx

minipie · 30/11/2022 22:44

Have they said anything about a CA125 blood test as that can be a useful indicator (tho no definitive). Again this is something you could get privately.

Also, just checking, have you done a pregnancy test? As all the symptoms you list (apart from the weeing, don’t remember that) I also had in early pregnancy…

Testng123 · 30/11/2022 22:45

Definitely get it investigated, tell the GP everything.

I had some of those symptoms and was convinced it was my ovaries...after investigation, it was just IBS.

peanutbutterontoast7 · 30/11/2022 22:49

OP there's been so many times that I have googled the symptoms of different types of cancer and had most of the symptoms.
The thing is that a lot of the symptoms simply cross over.
You need to step away from google and think about what you need to do to feel better. Contact the gp again? Go private? Trying and implement some coping strategies?

I really hope you're ok and fugue a way through this. I know just how worrying it is ♥️

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 23:21

Go back to your GP. I thought I had this. A specialist blood test pretty much ruled it out and I got the results quickly. Although a scan is still a good idea the blood test should tell you if it is a no.

EweCee · 30/11/2022 23:34

Definitely go back to the GP and explain your symptoms and concerns; perhaps align them with the B.E.A.T symptoms checker.

Ask for CA125 blood test immediately and push for a scan.

Don't let them fob you off with other less serious conditions - you may have to insist, particularly if you are pre-menopausal as they may say ovarian cancer is usually post menopausal.

Early diagnosis has a big impact on your treatment etc.

(I am an ovarian cancer survivor who got it in my early 30's and was fobbed off for nearly a year by doctors and didn't know any better myself.)

I cant actually believe this, but after reading what you have said I just took a pregnancy test as I want to rule everything out as I’m going to make an appt to see the Dr tomorrow, and the clear blue test has just come back saying pregnant 2-3 weeks. I just cant see how this is possible as I’ve had a period inbetween that possible window.

I’ll have to see the dr tomorrow now, but I’m glad you have mentioned it as I definitely would not have guessed that. I just hope this doesn’t get in the way of getting answers to my symptoms.

Congratualtions! I think?

Early pregnancy causes me to wee more be bloated and have constipation, by the way. The bleeding could be your cycles/hormomes getting back to normal (or not now). Try not to panic. When I had an ovarian cyst I was put on an urgent pathway which it sounds like you haven't been. Push for the blood test and an early scan though.

SNWannabe · 30/11/2022 23:45

I’d say most of your symptoms are explained by pregnancy! Congratulations! The bleeding sounds like some ectropian cells and nothing worrying. The rest sounds like pregnancy.

MammaWeasel · 30/11/2022 23:45

Ohhhhhhh look at you! A live unboxing, so to speak!

I had horrendous pain before and while while pregnant because of a grapefruit sized ovarian cyst......

Nat6999 · 30/11/2022 23:49

Ask your GP for an NHS choose & book referral to see a gynaecologist at your nearest private hospital, you will be seen quicker & get private treatment on the NHS. I had similar symptoms & was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst & endometriosis. Your bladder problems could be related to you having had a baby recently, did you have a rough delivery?

EweCee · 30/11/2022 23:52

I really hope you are pregnant Flowers. Just a word of caution, I too had a positive pregnancy home test but when they did the doctor’s blood test, it was negative. So ask for a blood test at the GP so they can definitely say you are pregnant. If you aren’t it’s just more reason to push for a CA125 and a scan (a CA125 is only an indicator and not a definitive ovarian cancer test - other non cancerous things can raise your CA125 or your CA125 may not be significantly raised even when you DO have ovarian cancer!)

shelley53 · 29/06/2023 12:42

I have recently seen my gp as I thought I had a urine infection I had two urine tests which were normal my other symptoms were lower back pain, pelvic pain, bloating and irregular bowel movements and frequent passing urine my gp sent me for blood tests which came back white cells up and inflammatory markers high I’m due to go for a ultrasound scan on the 16th July but I’m worrying myself stupid it could be ovarian related don’t like to use the c word any advice would be helpful on this subject

Choccyp1g · 30/06/2023 22:39

I had the same symptoms, I even told the Dr I thought it was ovarian cancer, but it turned out to be a benign cyst. As I'm past the menopause, I had a complete hysterectomy and both ovaries removed, along with the cyst, by keyhole surgery. For younger women, they would have only removed the cyst at first.

I only stayed one night in hospital and recovered very quickly. They checked the cyst for cancer while doing the op, which was all clear. Apparently most cyst are relatively harmless, but over a certain size they can cause other problems.
The biggest improvement is now I can sleep all night. Before I was up every hour for a pee!.

Hope it turns out as well for you.

regustering · 30/06/2023 22:40

I've never had blood from BV. Please go back to the gp, a different one
