Taking Norethisterone to delay period

I've booked a holiday over Xmas and new year. It's cost a lot of money and our first since Covid. We decided to treat ourselves after a difficult year - 2nd miscarriage , family member passing away.

I'm due my period whilst there about half way through the holiday. I get terrible headaches during my period and tend to feel yucky. I don't use tampons and we have lots of different water sports and other activities booked.

My friend suggested asking the GP for medication to delay my period. After a quick google search I believe this is called Norethisterone - has anyone any experience of this ? My period is fairly regular.

I don't use any contraceptives at present.

I've taken this a few times to delay period but be warned when u come off it ...

like someone left a tap on but stuck a bung in it...
heavy and clotty n painful....
but no side effects when actually on the tablets...

Good luck...

I’ve done this a couple of times for particular holidays where a period would have been especially inconvenient and the GP prescribed it no problem.

It’s not a perfect answer, you can still get some period symptoms even if you don’t get the actual period, and it does lead to a heavy period afterwards.

I've used it loads over the years including as a 12 year old. No problems at all. You can get it online from boots as well although cheaper on prescription.

I have used it and it was fine ish - I was still v pms-y and also the aftermath period was awful.

but my periods are generally very mean to me anyway so maybe you will fare better.

I've used several times in the past with no issues.

I'm okay with a heavy period afterwards . Suppose we can't have it all lol. I just hope it doesn't mess up my next cycle. Thanks for all responses.
