Ectropion cervix anyone else had this?

Hi,

30-year-old female here with no children. Was on the Contraceptive Mini "progestogen-only" pill but came off it about six months ago.

More recently during Sex with my other half I started experiencing bright red bleeding not like spotting the amount you would see as a period it stopped relatively quickly and nothing the next day.

Was playing on my mind so I went to visit the GP who advised that my smear was January this year - fine no evidence of HPV etc. Examined me and diagnosed Ectropion and said it tends to sort itself, can cause bleeding after sex etc out and sent me on my way.

Has anyone else been diagnosed with Ectropion by a GP from a one off visits I seem to have seen that people usually need a Gyne referral for diagnosis after a colposcopy?

I had issues like this back in 2015 where I actually had a colposcopy and the specialist everything was normal, and I had a very friable cervix.

Also, if it's supposed to be caused by the pill, I've been off this for 6 moths. Would Ectropion cause the amount of bleeding I had and how can GPs tell the difference between Cancer cells and an Ectropion?

I am very anxious about CC due to losing close ones lately to Cancer.

Hope someone can shed some light.

I had this. Pain & bleeding for months so went to see my gp. She said my cervix looked wrong & put me on a 2ww pathway.

I had a colposcopy & as soon as the Gynecologist could view with the camera he told me with was a cervical erosion & nothing to worry about. He cured it there & then with liquid nitrogen (felt weird) & it's been fine ever since. No pain or bleeding.

I felt very strong, painful cramps for a few hours after the colposcopy but it wasn't too bad & I'd not be bothered to have another one.

Try not to worry or Google etc. Also, cervical erosion/ectropian does not & cannot cause cervical cancer

Thank you for your reassuring message. Hopefully things will settle down. Just found it hard to get my head around how my GP could just diagnose without a refferal to a Gyne for further testing! Anyway fingers crossed stuff settles.. been a very stressful month! 😪

I had this around your age too. It was diagnosed at a smear test. The Dr doing the smear was not my usual GP and she made a terrible fuss and said it could be all sorts. I was in a state and went to my own GP who said it was quite normal and usually resolves on its own. I was sent for a colposcopy and the consultant asked why I was there. When I explained he was very annoyed that I had been referred at all and said it was very common and would resolve by its self. Which it did after about 6 months. I had period type cramps after sex and maybe a tiny bit of spotting. All that worry for nothing! I did complain about the Dr. and reported her to medical body concerned.

Oh Sorry I didn't answer you question. My Gp said the cells from inside the cervix have moved outside and are very visible. I believe he saud they are a much brighter colour and easily seen.

Mine was spotted a couple of years ago. No issues with it since.

I was in a similar boat. My bleeding started 6 months after I had a clear smear so no one is interested. Been back and forth to gynae, no colposcopy, they said I didn’t need one based on visual exam, and clear smear 3 years ago. I was told it’s hormonal and to take the pill. The pill made the bleeding worse and for 7 months I bled daily. I’m due a smear now and understandably really anxious and nervous about it. Especially when you read the leaflet that comes with the letter that says they are not totally accurate and bleeding should be investigated! Worried sick x

I had the nurse tell me I had one during a smear (she was annoyed because I bled and she said they probably wouldn't be able to read the smear) obviously I googled, panicked, saw the gp (a locum who also googled and basically shrugged it off). I was in a right state thinking they wouldn't be able to read the smear and if it was cancer it would progress while I was waiting for a repeat smear (I had HPV on my very first smear 10 years before).

Smear came back normal and I haven't had any issues since.
