haemorrhoids / piles do you ever really get rid of them?

I have had them since I had my dc which was 15 years ago, sometimes I don't have a problem for ages and sometimes I do.

Recently I have been doing a diet which has made me constipated and it has made them worse than ever.

What I am wondering is there any treatments that will really get rid of them for good?

I have creams and suppositories which help but never truly fixed the problem.

Dah has had his about that long. Tried banding twice. Now he just lives with them, but he can't stand for long periods or they're really painful. Only option now is surgery and the recovery is awful so he doesn't want to.

Oh god, following this with interest. I had twins 10 months ago and have the same bloody problem. They come and go but have never really left 😫

Saying that, I was hoping it would have definitely got better before 15 years😵

I got them after my DCs. I have had no more problems as long as I maintain a high fibre diet and stay well hydrated. However it took me about 10 years to work out this would help.

I have recently had surgery for grade 4 internal prolapsed piles, I won't lie the recovery is awful but if you eat a light diet a week before (salads, soups, veg & fish etc), drink 2 litres water a day after surgery, take the lactose medication and continue with a light diet for a few weeks after, it really is only a week - 10 days of pain. It is painful but my god it's life changing

I've had some since birth of my youngest 12 years ago. Had loads of issues with them esp around 18 mths ago one thrombosed.
Since I quit dairy I've had no issues at all and they have really shrunk. I manage my diet and stay off dairy. I have endometriosis and my consultant told me it's an inflammatory reaction and there is definitely a link. If I consume any milk or cheese my endo symptoms are awful too.

@ellieboolou , I’ve got the surgery coming up next week 😬 I’ve been eating lots of veggie soup and drinking plenty of water. Steeling myself for the first two weeks 🤞

No they're my little friends now

AnnieSnap · 16/11/2022 23:45

When we get them through pregnancy or repeated constipation in early or middle adulthood, they very often shrink and no longer cause problems. I’m 63 and developed some during child bearing years. After a period of some months (can’t remember how many) they shrunk and I had no problems for decades. I went through a period of chronic constipation about 5-years ago and they were back with a vengeance, but settled again a few months after that problem was sorted. My husband is 69. His became horrendous and he had surgery a few years ago, but like mine he had them when younger and they settled for many years.

Worry not, younger MNs. I doubt you will have major problems with them for a very long time, if at all.

I've had them for about 8 or 9 years now, since my mid twenties. I probably bleed more often than I don't when going to the toilet and I'm sure that contributes to my constant low iron levels. I recently had a sigmoidoscopy which showed grade 3 internal piles so I'm really hoping they can be banded but I'm waiting to hear back. They're quite literally a pain in the arse!

ellieboolou · 17/11/2022 01:41

@MsMelody ah good luck! Diet, water and laxido are your best friends when it comes to recovery. Sounds like you are doing all the right things to prepare for surgery

The moment I feel even the slightest niggle I have a bath with Epsom salts. Then I try and keep doing that for a few days. It really seems to work for me. The last time they were bad it was horrific, then a friend suggested this and for the last few years they haven’t bothered me.

KangarooKenny · 17/11/2022 06:41

I find that mine are worse in the heat, or if I have diarrhoea.
