Washing avocado pregnant?

How do you all prep your avocado during pregnancy I’ve never washed them before but apparently you should?

Well you don't eat the skin so I don't see what difference or would make

CuddlyRita · 10/11/2022 19:19

Surely you aren't eating the skin

autumnleavesontheground · 10/11/2022 19:20

Unless you’re eating the skin, I wouldn’t wash it. But I hardly wash any fruit or veg, just eat it as is.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/11/2022 19:22

Who in the effing jeff told you this? As they apparently eat the skins of avocados (and are therefore clearly a monster) I think you can probably ignore them...

Exactly what I thought, I don’t fancy eating the rind!!🤷‍♀️😂 I read this on a pregnancy food website said the risks of listeria with avocado due to the skin when cutting could contaminate the avocado! It’s also said about burnt meat such as chicken (since being pregnant I prefer a drier more burnt chicken so I know it’s cooked.) it can cause cancer-causing carcinogens for the mum and foetus?

Sorry OP but I think I've heard it all now...

Stop reading those websites! Seriously.

Every country in Europe gives different advice which says a lot about the risk in relative terms.

The one thing I would avoid is liver and pate but otherwise I didn't stress too much about it, cos frankly you could torture yourself and do as much harm mentally worrying about it constantly.

Well... I guess I might give it a rinse under the tap if I was at all bothered. And I wouldn't carbonise meat but nicely browned should be fine, people have been eating cooked meat for millennia and undercooked chicken is definitely not a good idea.

goodmorningsunny · 10/11/2022 19:37

It's nonsense. Annoyingly, everything is "dangerous" when pregnant if you Google it. I stopped googling at 20 weeks because of this exact problem. Might be worth trying :) (how many times have you caught listeria from an unwashed avocado before now, eh? ;) )
