Help! I found a lump!

Last night I found a lump on my right breast just to the left and above my nipple. The skin is smooth and feels bumpy and it doesn't necessarily feel like a lump until I press it between my fingers. DH rang the doctors this morning to get it checked but they said I'd have to wait until next week. DH was disgusted at this and has told me to ring 111 but it seems like such a waste of their time when I could just wait.

I've had bumps like this before but this is still worrying. It is very red and two dents are visible on the area too.

I get a lot of irritation from my bras as I am a 32F and my period is 2 days late so I know these could be factors too.

Try to get an emergency appointment with your GP. Do your best not to worry about it. Take the first appointment you are offered, and you'll probably be referred for a mammogram in a week or two. It could be due to your period or lack of one.
Is there any chance you could be pregnant?
How long has the lump been there?

fudgecat · 04/11/2022 16:42

I'd ring the surgery yourself first thing Monday morning and ask for a same day appointment. Probably also worth doing a pregnancy test as that could be an explanation

Phoenixwings1989 · 04/11/2022 17:15

@KirstenBlest I'm not sure as I only found it last night after checking. As for being pregnant I'm not a 100% sure about there not being a chance. My periods are usually early and dead on time and very rarely rare I am late.

@fudgecat I did two pregnancy tests yesterday and both were negative. I had light brown spotting this morning but nothing since. I am cramping too but by this point usually when I'm having a period I'll be in a lot more pain. I will ring again on Monday but am prepared the receptionist might just tell me to do an e-consultation and wait.

Let's hope that it is not serious. Take the appointment you are offered. It might go after you get your period.

Phoenixwings1989 · 04/11/2022 18:52

@KirstenBlest yes fingers crossed. Just wished they'd seen me today instead of leaving me with all this worry.

Why not do an e-consult now? Then you can follow up on Monday.i find I get a good response with those from my surgery, and I think you can attach a photo.

Phoenixwings1989 · 04/11/2022 19:45

@CrotchetyQuaver I tried to do one all day but I kept getting a response saying e-consultation are closed until 8am Monday.

Just got back from the doctors. I was able to get an emergency appointment this afternoon.

Doctor diagnosed it as an infection as most of the area was red and blotchy in several areas and not just one. I've been given a 7 day course fluoxicillan and have to take them four times a day.

I have a bit of a temperature too.

Question is do I wait until tomorrow to take them or start tonight? Tonight will just be two doses whereas if I wait until tomorrow it'll be the full dose.

Dont delay taking the antibiotics - start now and take 2 today and then usual 3 from tomorrow.

MaggieMagpie357 · 07/11/2022 16:30

Probably best to start taking them straight away so they can get to work. Glad to hear you got an appointment, hope the antibiotics work.

Youngatheart00 · 07/11/2022 16:30

Sorry - usual 4! But the sooner they get into your system the better!

glad it was a reassuring GPvisit

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 07/11/2022 16:32

Start today then they’re building up in your system and acting on the infection. When it gets to the end of the course, you’ll finish with a lunchtime dose.

Wetblanket78 · 27/12/2022 22:58

If you can't pop it you'll need antibiotics. Some pharmacies can do prescriptions for things like this. It's always worth asking.

The OP was seen by their GP and got antibiotics on 7th November so, hopefully, it’s fully resolved by now!!
