Likely cyst which is likely to resolve- should I be this worried?

Had a pelvic exam (as ttc one year with no luck) which has showed a ‘likely cyst which is likely to resolve’ (surgery text message) but they have booked another scan. Thing is i have a sharp stabbing pains there which come and go which have been there for a year in fact I thought it was my appendix but just ignored it. Getting really worried now? I have very regular but painful very heavy long periods. Doctor will call in two weeks until then I am worried sick about things like cancer or it rupturing. It feels like it'll pop with the pulsating stabbing pains.

I had the same and was on the two week pathway as I am post menopausal. They are monitoring me for a year, mine was/ is 8cm . I don't think I have it now as I don't have any symptoms at all and the pain is gone. Next scan is in January so we'll see. Are you taking pain killers regularly?

They can see from the scan of it's the sort likely to be cancerous, the majority of them aren't which sounds like the one you have.

OP, any ovarian cyst should be investigated and it’s great that your Drs have asked for another scan.

As an extra precaution you could ask for your CA125 level to be checked also.

Thanks for the replies. I am really upset about this, here I was worried about ttc now i’m more worried about cancer! Now i am here questioning everything my exhaustion etc and I am reading so much into the text the ‘likely cyst’ what is it if it is unlikely then is it cancer? That is still very likely to me :(. Likely to resolve - if it doesn’t then surgery? I am traumatised of hospitals due to unfortunate circumstances within my family.
@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I don’t really take any painkillers as the pain is gone in minutes but can make me hunch over unable to stand straight in that time. Thanks, I really hope it isn’t something like that.
@MrsTumblebee thanks i will get this checked for peace of mind at the very least.

"I have very regular but painful very heavy long periods".

Has anyone mentioned endometriosis to you as a possible cause for all this?. Endo can and does cause heavy bleeding to arise as well as pain.

It seems they not yet determined what type of cyst this is either which leads to you having more worry.

Scans will not detect endometriosis if it is present; it is usually diagnosed through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/10/2022 12:50

Less than 1% of ovarian cysts are cancerous and they'll be able to tell from the scan what sort it is so you'll know there and then if it needs any further investigation. I know it's hard but they're really common so try not to worry. Take regular pain killer so when the attacks occur they aren't so painful.

I have two cysts at the moment, one is simple (essentially just a bag of fluid) and one is complex (a solid mass with partitions). The former is not a concern and will resolve itself and the latter is being monitored via six monthly scans. Try not to panic. Ovarian cysts are very common and most are of the simple type and resolve themselves, which seems to be what your notes are saying.

Tbh I have thought about endometriosis but as soon as I heard the only way of diagnosing it is through surgery I thought I would just go along with it being part of my life even if it is there, due to fear. However, i am having to make so many adjustments in my life around my periods it is really starting to get to me. I have also felt much better in the past just by taking contraceptives.

Thanks for the replies I will see how it goes at the next scan. Hopefully, it will resolve. I have just been very emotional today. It has been one thing after another these past few years.

Just updating the cyst is still there, my sharp pains have been getting worse. It is a smooth blood filled cyst most likely an endometrioma 13mm size. So my heavy painful periods are therefore due to endometriosis also.

Very worried now (about surgery or the possibility of fast cyst growth and rupture) but will have to just deal with it I suppose. I will update the thread as I have found the lm very helpful when searching in the past so hopefully someone will too. Thanks for reading.

Urghhhhh the worry is awful isn't it? I went for my scan check up last week and they've arranged an urgent MRI as I now have two cysts. Possible surgery is really scary especially as they said it wouldn't be keyhole.
