Perimenopause at 36??

My periods have become irregular and very light. Lasting maybe three/four days? I'm sleeping terribly and getting very hot in the night. I keep forgetting things, like words for things when I'm talking. Feeling a bit low but not really worried about that. Is it worth a chat with the Dr or am I over reacting?

It's certainly worth a chat with your GP. If you are in perimenopause at your age it's really important that you start taking HRT to protect your bones, heart and brain.

I promise I'm not trying to scare you, but it is important to get this checked out. It's perfectly possible of course that something else is going on.

@DramaAlpaca thank you. I think I'm just worried about wasting their time. It's definitely getting lighter everytime which seems odd to me.

Yes, definitely see your GP.

I'm reading Davina McCall's book about menopause at the moment, it's really informative. I'd read that first, write down a list of all of the symptoms that you're having, then see your GP. I think you'll need to have some blood tests due to your age.

Just to add, don't be fobbed off with anti-depressants.

@FlippertyGibberts thank you. I'll definitely take a look at that book. It's more my physical symptoms. I've been having a lot of headaches lately too which seem to be turning into migraines which has never happened before.

Mine started at 40. 36 is definitely not unheard of and early menopause has potential medical consequences so it's worth getting checked.

PritiPatelsMaker · 29/10/2022 16:29

You definitely wouldn't be wasting the GPs time.

Best thing I did was go to my gp but I had already been in menopause for 2 years 😩 my peri started at 38 x

Misspacorabanne · 04/11/2022 09:34

Hi @iloveyankeecandle how you getting on? I'm here as I'm also 36 and wondering if I'm Peri! I've had a strange period this month, not particularly heavy but it's lasted 7 days, which is unheard of for me (normally last 3 days, 1 heavy ish day) it had alot of spotting before and took ages to get going, and once it did get going it lasted the 7 days.
I've also had tender breasts all month since last, its less noticable during my period but starts up straight away afterwards, I'm definitely not pregnant! I've checked! It's like my hormones are out of whack... Also I had bad Peri oral dermititis on my face after having my last DC, and I think it was hormonal, it settled with cream, and that has also flared up!
Not sure if to give it another month or speak to gp, just wondered how you were getting on? Did you see your gp??
Also early menopause runs in my family, grandma, mum and auntie all began in 30s, so it could be possible I guess.

Mine started at 36 - no history of early menopause in close family. Dodgy periods were the first sign, night sweats, insomnia, anxiety. I went on Qlaira - a pill that is often used in perimenopause. Then on HRT pills and now in my early 50s with a Mirena and HRT gel.

The thing that propelled me to the Doctors was when I flooded on holiday. I just said I don't want that happening again.

So read the NICE guidelines - don't get fobbed off with anti depressants - and be prepared for the fact that you might have to try a few things at first.

Haven't had chance to book a drs appt yet. But it's on my list. My periods seem to be getting lighter but closer together? Im aching all over all the time too. Not sure if that's linked at all.

Please book an appointment op, the sooner the better you can get seen and check nothing else is going on.

Misspacorabanne · 04/11/2022 18:16

@iloveyankeecandle thanks for updating. Yes I've been a bit achy too, on my joints, just thought it was after effects of covid, but who knows. Could all be connected I guess.
Hope you manage to get seen by the gp! 😊
