Recovery after Hysteroscopy and polypectomy?

Hey 🙂

I had a hysteroscopy and polypectomy last week, under general anesthetic, and to be honest I'm still suffering, more than I expected to be at this point.

I was signed off work for a week, which takes me to today, I don't work Tuesdays so I'm back on Wednesday, I work in retail.

I'm still in pain, and I'm still bleeding. I don't know if what I'm experiencing now is my period, I would be due anytime, I had the coil inserted during the procedure to help with my periods but I think it's a little too soon.

The bleeding is definitely lighter than previously but the cramps and pain are on a whole new level. Paracetamol and ibuprofen are barely touching it.

I'm worried I'm not going to cope at work on Wednesday, I work mostly back of house in a busy store and my work is very physical.

On the other hand I'm not sure if I'm being a total pansy and just need to get over myself and get back to normality.

I did search on this subject and read some threads but none specifically about recovery time.

Anybody been in my situation?

Poor you. I had the same operation exactly and I recovered enough to be back at my non-physical work a few days later, but I did have to request stronger painkillers from my GP.

If you're still struggling you should ask to be signed off for longer, everyone recovers differently and you really aren't making a fuss about nothing. Ask for more pain relief and don't go back to work until you feel better.

Yes. I was ok and back to work after one week. Agree that the cramps and pain are really uncomfortable. I had some high dose cocodomal or ibuprofen- I think. Not sure I would have been up to being on my feet all day - I have a mostly desk job.

can you take a couple more days? Knowing how painful it was, I wouldn’t want to work through that - and everyone heals differently.

Seems a bit excessive. I was back at work in 2 days. Did you have a G A ?

eEverybody is different but you might need to make sure you don’t have an infection or something.

Working in retail is quite brutal on your body if your standing most of the day, If you don't feel up to it, get more time signed off.

I had this 2 weeks ago. I was back at work the following day. But didn't drive until 2 days later on their advice after the GA. I bled for about 10 days. I agree that it sounds a bit extreme that you have suffered so much. I would definitely ring the hospital or my GP if I were in your position. Hope you feel better soon.

Wow back to work so soon!!

I've been having awful periods for years (I'm 41) and this is the last ditch before I go down the hysterectomy route. Initially I was going to have cervical ablation but I've had 5 c sections so it's too risky. I wonder if my previous c sections are hindering my recovery?

I also had biopsies taken during the procedure. And I don't yet know the findings or hope many polyps etc were removed.

When I got there and they realised I have never been in labor, I had to have tablets inserted to make me dilate, which was weird! Again I don't know if this has gone against me too.

I'm fully fed up now to be honest. Aside from the shitty periods I've been putting up with, I'm now suffering way longer than I expected. My patience is wearing thin.

I honestly think my uterus is punishing me for putting it through 5 pregnancies!

I forgot to add, related but also not...

I do/did have an injection, but on my lip, from the intubation tube, either the pressure or a reaction to the adhesive tape. On antibiotics.
