Is it a bad idea to get the coil fitted then go straight out for a fancy lunch?

Friend’s 40th birthday lunch has booked in for weeks and have first ever coil fitting booked the morning of that day. Is it horrendous to have it fitted and is it stupid to do it 3 hours before I’m about to go out for my friend’s 40th? Will I feel rough? Clinic really busy and didn’t want to have to put it off any longer. But also don’t want to ruin my rare child free day out with friends. Thanks for your advice.

I was fine after my first one
changing them is more painful though

I had mine fitted during my lunch break at work. I went back to work after having had a couple of painkillers and worked the afternoon in my office job. I went to a friend's house that evening too.

However I did have fairly horrendous cramps in the evening.

It was all manageable but not terribly nice.

I hadn't been pregnant before and I understand it is easier if you have been pregnant.

I was fine with mine. Bit of a cramp as it went in, then drove home and got on with my day as normal.

I've had 3 and would have been fine for lunch after all of them.

I was absolutely fine after mine.

I went straight

Galarunner · 21/10/2022 16:07

I went straight back to work, no issues but it varies for everyone

I couldn't walk, bled profusely for weeks and was in agony after mine. It was awful.
I was still a bruised mess the next day and couldn't stand up straight.
I've had two c sections, don't know if that makes a difference.

I've had a coil placed 4 times, The first time was actually okay and was a copper coil for ten years, the second one a copper coil again but was more painful as it was a replacement (felt shaky afterwards and v emotional), then a break, then 2 mirena coils - These were more painful. I am on my last one (hopefully!). The range of experience between each placement/replacement varied massively. There's a lot of variables in this, not least (imo) the skill of the person doing it! If there is no way to reschedule the lunch and there's no way to reschedule the appointment then I would wait and see but I would plan for the worst and hope for the best but reschedule if possible. Twice I went home and slept, other times I forgot about it quickly and got on with my day.

I took a painkiller beforehand, went in, then went out for breakfast afterwards, and then to work. I was told insertion is easier if you've had kids, which definitely seemed to be the case for me!

Oh man. There are some really horrendous stories on here of women having terrible experiences - thank you for sharing and sorry some of you had such a bad time. Nice to hear some have found it ok though. Hearing all this, I think I’ll reschedule the coil (and actually might rethink it altogether!) as really don’t want to let my friend down and want to be able to enjoy the lunch out. Thanks so much everyone! This has been really helpful.
