14 years ago I had CIN3 so needed LLETZ treatment, had test of cure - all fine.
Then 6 yrs ago at my routine smear I tested HPV+ but no abnormal cells so got put on yearly smears. Same in year 2 and 3 so got referred for colposcopy, all fine, biopsies clear.
Still on yearly smears and still the same results,, HPV+ but no abnormal cells.

Went for my smear a few weeks ago and no results yet but got a letter this morning for a colp appointment in November. It scared the life out of me so I called the GP surgery and apparently my smear showed HPV+ but no abnormalities, thank God.

Just concerned that I can't shift HPV and that its going to cause major problems. I'm 48 and been married for ages (both faithful.) Anyone else similar?

Thank you for reading x

Can I ask how long you have been married for ? my last smear showed HPV and we've been together 20 years, no cheating that I am aware of. I'm miffed, Previous smears not detected this but UK have only started to screen for HPV for last 2-3 years.

We've been together for 16 years. Its so frustrating, all the info online say it can lie dormant for years. Apparently menopause can set it off?

You can't get rid of it, and most people have it. Take extra care with nutrition so your immune system remains strong.

You can get rid of it. Your system can clear it. Happens in most cases.

Are you a smoker? It's much harder to get rid of it if you smoke.

You're right! I'm in the 10% of women with persistent HPV causing changes to my cervical cells.
