Losing weight with pcos

Coolcat34 · 15/10/2022 15:37

Hi everyone. I am due for my referral to see a hormone specialist in a months time.

i was confirmed to have pcos earlier this year.

i have struggled with my weight my whole life despite regular exercise and a good diet.

i am not sure what to expect from my referral, and I wanted to ask those with the condition if they noticed a change in their weight after they started to get treatment.

thanks

Metformin changed my daugher's life. Like you, she exercised very regularly (2 classes a day), and ate really well. She was totally disheartened by the time she saw a consultant - her GP had prescribed antidepressants (which she didn't take) - but three years on, she feels and looks great.

Thank you for this. Sorry to be nosy.

I have been doing swimming/ 3-4 times a week for 6 months now. It’s hard to tell if I have seen the effects. I suppose it’s my legs where I have noticed something if at all. I had to change my belt hooks. I work full time too in an office so I exercise when I can.

However, in terms of belly fat nothing much is happening. I am still continuing with the classes but wondering how much of an impact it has.

I am eating right (mostly) and doing these classes but I am getting very disheartened.

Did your daughter see results with the metformin?

Absolutely she did.

The consultant listened to what she was finding most upsetting. He initially started her on the SR (slow release) Metformin, but that didn't have an impact, so he moved her on to the normal tablets. She is 'allowed' to take up to 4 a day, depending on how she feels (sometimes her tummy feels a little dodgy), but there are days where she takes none or just the one - largely because it has to be taken with food, and life can be busy!

The first time she saw him, she wouldn't let me go in with her as she was embarrassed about her weight. After 12 months, he said how well she'd responded, and that has continued to be the case. She still exercises (not as much though) and her diet is not as good as it was, although not stupid.

I hated seeing her so down - her self esteem was at rock bottom - whereas now her down times are related to the normal boyfriend/work issues! Grin

I really hope it works for you.

Thank you for the insightful messages.

i wasn’t really sure what to expect.

I just know that I have had a problem with my weight since I was a teen. Because of it all I have low self esteem, or poor body image. I suppose it’s very odd but for me it’s like my mind is detached from my body. I have an inner confidence, but part of me stops it showing on the outside. It is very difficult. I also think I haven’t had the opportunities I should have had because people look at my weight.

It has been an uphill battle. I have an odd relationship with food and it can be very difficult for me to eat without feeling bad. I largely eat whole foods, but I’m human i nip into the odd pizza every fortnite. I restricted my sugar intake, I mainly drink sparkling water flavoured with apple juice. (Not the shop bought ones, I make it myself)

After all this my results are very limited and it’s very upsetting. My partner eats so many sweets and chocolates, yet it never touches him. Me I am scared to eat a chip.

Yet after all this I wasn’t too sure what to expect when seeing a specialist. I wanted to loose weight for my health and I wanted to know if this could be achieved with treatment.

Thank you

I’m on cycle day 36 with no show of period. I normally have my period between day 28-34. I had a lighter period last month was heavy enough for pads but not as heavy as normal. I don’t think I ovulated this month wasnt tracking but didn’t get the usual signs have had constant back ache and we weren’t bd much as I’ve been helping my sister post her section with her new baby. And to be honest we have gave up on trying to conceive again. I already have ivf twins aged 9. Now this period delay is wrecking my head any thoughts ladies what could be going on?
