Sor after sex - doctor said to accept it?!

I'm mid 40s, had a FSH blood test last year that confirmed I've just started perimenopause. I'm on microgynon (the pill) which has helped with symptoms such as hot flushes.

I get aroused during sex but we also use lubricant. I get a little burning for a few minutes after sex and sometimes the urge to wee (similar to how you get with UTIs but no other symptoms). Two urine tests didn't show signs of a UTI either!

The doctor said that it's a symptom of perimenopause and aside from using lube, taking Bladapure etc (both of which I do) there's nothing else that can be done, i just have to accept it!

Any advice please?

Are you sure you aren't being irritated by the lube? Maybe try a different one to see if that's helps?

Well I'm a bit older and my doctor prescribed oestrogen cream to be applied vaginally - that helped in that (with lube) sex is no longer uncomfortable. Though it also can cause irritation itself so working out how often to apply is a bit of an art. Pity it didn't help with the libido but at least when we DO DTD it's fun!

Oestrogen cream should help with this

Kai1981 · 28/09/2022 15:41

We use Yes or coconut oil, and I've also tried Durex oil before, all have the same issues so I don't think it's that.

I had heard about oestrogen cream, wonder why he didn't suggest it (maybe age). Glad it's been of help.

Did this start after using coconut oil. There is increasing literature about the vaginal microbiome, and coconut might disrupt balance.

Really interesting about the coconut oil! It started recently and we alternate that with Yes. Maybe I'll stop using the former for a while and see if that helps.

Hi, I joined a brilliant free menopause group on Facebook which a menopause specialist runs who has a private clinic in Leicester at an amazing holistic clinic my sister recommended called The Health Suite

The group is great for ladies to share personal menopause related experiences. it’s a private group called Simply menopausal and the specialist is brilliant. She might answer you directly as she controls the group and is quite active on it along with members comments. Simply menopausal Facebook

kai1981 - might be useful to put your comments on the Facebook private group to see what other ladies say on there. It’s a great supportive group.
