Hi all hope everyone is okay. I'm just looking for some insight really. I'm 30 and always had heavy periods as a teen. I started mines when I was 9. In my late teens they stopped and I was diagnosed with PCOS. Over the last 7-8 years I've had not problems with them except they are monthly now. Very heavy but overall okay. Well since I hit 30 they are bad like the pain is unbearable. I've spent this full weekend at home. I've stretched and had a small walk but had to come back home. My lower stomach and lower back is in agony my hips and upper legs. My boobs feel like they are on fire.Feel sick and very heavy too. Has any one gotten worse as older? I naively thought as I'm getting older they would get better haha!

Hi OP. Sorry to hear you are suffering with your periods.
Mine haven't got worse as I have gotten older but I find that I feel completely drained and tired once it's finished. Mine have always been heavy and lasted about 5/6 days but the tiredness I feel once it's over is quite new.

I think with it making you so unwell you should definitely see your GP.

Also do you drink a lot of water? I've found since doing intermittent fasting and drinking lots of water it's made my cramps less severe each month.

I had those symptoms and in my case at least the cause was endometriosis.

It is also a common cause of ongoing, heavy (thus can also cause heavy bleeding)and very painful periods. I would suggest you keep a pain and symptom diary noting everything. Any pain that is cyclical in nature and or gets worse up to and including menses should be checked to see if this is present. You should be referred to a gynaecologist and if you have the means to see such a person as a private patient I would urge you to do that. Do not be fobbed off by a doctor solely trying to treat the symptoms, it’s the cause that needs to be properly established. BTW blood tests and ultrasound scans do not readily detect endo if it is present, it’s usually seen via a laparoscopy which is a keyhole surgery op.

Stress to the doctor as well how this is impacting on your day to day life.
