Bleeding everyday

thehoundschicken · 14/09/2022 09:03

Hi, not looking for a diagnosis on mumsnet just some reassurance or if anyone has experienced similiar. Ive been bleeding everyday for the past year.

I was previously on combined pill since age of 14 (put on for extreme period pain) which resolved this and was on up to last year at age of 34. I didn't have a migraine but had vision problems one day and my doctor immediately took me off it. I arranged the injection depo last September, after two weeks the bleeding started everyday. I continued with it as was told would settle down and had my last shot in December. Bleeding didn't stop, in March I went to doctor and she put me on the desogestrel and referred me for a ct scan (due to constant pain in side and bladder issues too)

Scan came back normal , I went back as bleeding continued and she said she had also referred me for an ultrasound at the same time as ct but has never came through to this day.

Bleeding continues as well as pelvic pain occasionally and I now have lower back pain though believe it's unrelated as feels like something is pulled and I'm on cocodamol for this now.

Blood is never old, always fresh red and sometimes clots sometimes large , mostly I can feel when it's coming. When I go for a pee the bowl is filled with blood and clots though it's definitely coming from my menstrual system.

Has anyone had similiar and got it resolved? After a year I'm now worried about uterine cancer, I had pre cancerous cells in my cervix 13 years ago and smears been ok since so don't think it's cervix related. I know it could be fibroids or cysts just hugely worrying the not knowing

I bled for 4 months continuously as a part of peri menopause and that was bad enough; I wince at the fact you've been bleeding for a year. Becoming anaemic here is a real possibility. In my case my bleeding was caused by constant fluctuations of both progesterone and estrogen. Previously diagnosed endometriosis also played a part in this happening too.

Chase the GP and lay it on thick with this person that this is affecting the quality of your day to day life. I would be wondering why you have seemingly not been referred to a gynae for further evaluation. If you have the financial means I would go private for an initial consultation with a gynae. I suggest that too as NHS gynae waiting lists are very long.

I would suggest you keep a daily pain and symptom diary noting everything particularly if you do not already do this.

I am also wondering if endometriosis is present here; that does not show up readily on scans and would not readily show up on an internal ultrasound scan either. The fact that you were put on the combined pill for severe period pain as a teen leads me to thinking of endometriosis; this is a common cause of ongoing severe period pain.

Hi, thanks for replying. I know time has just carried on and Ive unfortunately just put up with it and occasionally raises it out of desperation then resign myself again.

I go on holiday abroad next month and all my holiday clothes are black which was kinda weirdly the final straw!

When I went originally to the nurse then doctor they tested my blood, iron levels were ok at that point, I'm already b12 deficient so have those injections every 3 months, but I'll ask them to check again as it's continued it could change. I faint a lot anyway due to low blood pressure so hard to tell if there's a difference (prior to bleeding symptoms)

I made another appointment however wanted to speak to my own doctor who knows me and is female and the next appointment I could get is Early october on the telephone however I will be laying it on thick now, I usually don't press and just get fobbed off easily.

Re the referral she originally referred for a ct scan as I also had blood in urine and pain in side but that was just checking for kidney stones and pipes where working, she did do a new smear when I was in or took a scraping of cervix and had a check herself or my cervix. I just feel it's further up

I've heard about endo sorry to hear you suffered from it, they were really bad that I used to vomit and be doubled over but never had any issues with pain since contraceptives, I'll read up further about it to see if it resonates.

I can take out private medical care through my work for a monthly payment have been thinking about it seems it may be worth doing it now.

Thanks for sharing your experience and replying it's really appreciated

I had almost exactly this, to the point where I was signed off work because at any moment there could be a ‘flood’ or I could suddenly be in so much pain I was sick and feverish.

I got a referral to a consultant, who then pushed me through the cancer clinic (scary but I was seen within two weeks) and it was fibroids. They were removed and I had a mirena fitted and I have had no problems since. The relief is incredible.

I hope very much that you get a speedy resolution to this, I understand how debilitating it can be. Best wishes.

Thank you, even though I'm sorry others had similiar it's good to hear others experiences and especially that it's been resolved.

I know there is a good chance it's fibroids or cysts , I remember it being mentioned when I was pregnant 10 years ago during a scan not the specifics but just an offhand comment that there was and it was common so it may well be that causing the issue now.

I'm glad yours was resolved and gives me hope!

Chase ultrasound, and chase GP for a gyn referral. Call them everyday if you have to.

Bleeding every day is not acceptable with no medical interference is not acceptable. Especially if your GP is aware of it! Maybe she thinks it has resolved itself as you haven't been back?

longtompot · 14/09/2022 10:26

I would push for the ultrasound. When I first had my very heavy bleeding about 10 years ago, I was bleeding pretty much every day for a year just with the odd day off, I had the ultrasounds and they found I had polyps. I have them removed under ga and the surgeon came to see me afterwards and said that was the biggest polyp I've ever removed! Pretty much sorted everything.
However, they do grow back and I also have fibroids now so am waiting for a hysterectomy.
I do get pain just before passing large clots, sort of like labour contractions, but sometimes I get no real warning and flood when I stand up or cough. I have had times sat on the loo just pouring blood and passing clots. It's really no way to live as you can't relax. Mine has also caused me anemia and at its worst my ferritin was 4 and my gp didn't know how I was managing to do anything every day. So was I when I eventually had some iron infusions and was no longer out of breath getting something out of a lower cupboard.
Anyway, get the ultrasound referral and I hope you get some help soon. Hope you enjoy your holiday. I'm away in just under two weeks and am worried about leaks so am taking far more clothes than I usually would, plus mattress protection.

Thank you both, I did call the ultrasound department at our hospital last month went to answer machine and asked to leave a message which I did with my number but no one called me back, I really should push more. I think to start with it was first assumed it was depo side effects but then I stopped that in December and it's continued, the new pill hasn't made it worse or better in any way.

It isn't heavy as such but enough to impact my day and to be worrying, It's not just spotting but it's also not the same as a heavy period just gushes at times and everyday , similiar to what you say if I do a sudden movement or coughing etc, then mostly it's when I'm actually on the toilet and there is always clots of varying sizes when I pass urine. Im loath to wear a pad every day so if im at home I can actually feel when it's coming and can run to toilet to try catch it which is completely different to when I had a normal period I wouldn't feel anything really.

I think I probably need to get some back bone and phone up tomorrow to speak to any doctor instead of waiting for my appointment in October, I'll try ultrasound department again tomorrow as I'm not convinced there is a referral in though someone did tell me there is a year waiting list for non urgent referrals. Thanks again it's reassuring and actually feel vindicated that it isn't normal or acceptable

Thanks everyone for your messages, I finally got my scan on Wednesday including internal, the lady was lovely but didn't give much away, she did ask several times if I had a C-section, I've had two before , so imagine there must have been some scarring.

She told me to make an appointment with my doctor for a weeks time, I phoned this morning and the results are already there with a note from my doctor saying can be a telephone appointment, first one I could get was 24th october so hopefully some answers then.

Thanks for the update! I often wonder how people are doing after these threads. Glad to hear things are progressing.

thehoundschicken · 30/10/2022 11:38

Thought I would further update for anyone having the same to push to get checked.

My ultrasound showed up a haemorrhagic cyst on my right ovary and a suspected polyp/blood vessels and clot/ or other on my uterus. I have an appointment on the 18th at hospital with gynaecologist so hopefully find out plan then!

Either could be cause of the bleeding , also on lots of lower back pain medication and possible it's linked so hoping once resolved my symptoms will be resolved!
