Ovulation pain

TheCornishmaid · 20/08/2022 07:18

Inbetween being on contraception I've suffered with ovulation pain, which normally lasts about 5 days. This for me is alot worse than period pain, its sore for me to sit or walk around, if i need a wee even a little bit i feel pressure and discomfort. Always starts 2 weeks before period is due so i know its that. Ive read online that it should only last about 2 days any more than that i should consult a doctor. I have made doctors aware of this in the past and sexual health nurse but nothing has really been made of it. I've had the copper coil fitted this week so no artificial hormones to mask ovulation, and this morning im in quite a bit of pain. Does anyone else experience this? Is 5 days to long? Not sure wether this is normal or a perhaps maybe a underlying condition.

Yes this is me and it’s only really happened on the last few months. I have a drs appointment on Wednesday as my CM is very pale pink slightly. I’ll let you know how I get on x

Yes please do let me know - hopefully all okay. I get a little pink CM sometimes but mainly just pains which im more concerned about. Surely shouldn't be this uncomfortable.

I think it was the pains that had made me contact them rather than the pink CM I think it’s more the combo. Yesterday was worse than before/during AF due to ovulate in 2 days so it could be that but thought it was only on the day you get it. Will let you know how it goes x

Pain like this is not normal.

Mid cycle pain which is cyclical should be investigated further by a gynae to see if endometriosis is the underlying cause. I would see a GP and request a referral to a gynae. If you have the means to see a gynae at your local private hospital I would do so as waiting lists on the NHS for gynaecology are miles long.

I have exactly this since having an emergency c section a few years back the pain from ovulation actually makes me feel I’ll and the pressure makes me constantly urinate and then the pain spreads to my lower back and down my legs. I’m having a laparoscopy on the nhs in the next two months I really hope it shows something, ask to be referred x

I have exactly this, I’ve had it for years. It’s awful, I really feel for you. I can’t pick my kids up, it hurts to walk, bend, wee, and my lower sides are so tender I can’t even graze them without flinching. So bloated as well, and my mood takes a dive. And lasts about 5 days. I saw a gynae (privately, as I have insurance through work) and she did a pretty thorough investigation (blood tests, scans, MRI, hysteroscopy) and concluded that it’s likely related to endometriosis. She offered to do a laparoscopy to definitively diagnose and remove, but I declined and am trying the pill. It’s been a process finding a pill that suits me, but I’m on the mini pill now and so far so good. All the pills I’ve tried have shut off ovulation, which has effectively stopped the pain.

Hbhhhh193948484848 · 21/08/2022 09:14

@nomorespaghetti

Did you have heavy periods? My periods aren’t heavy wasn’t sure if I could still possibly have endometriosis.

bunnykins123 · 21/08/2022 09:23

@TheCornishmaid I have this, it got considerably worse since having a c section. I had a hysteroscopy last week (for unrelated reasons) and it was clear. Having a mri next month as my guess is it's either adhesions from the c section or endometriosis. I also think age can also be a factor.

TheCornishmaid · 21/08/2022 11:17

Sounds like i need to get back in the doctors and push them to refer me! I was on the combined pill for years and decided to come off dues to low moods and anxiety, thats when the pains started. I then had my baby 7 months ago and doctors wanted to try me on the mini pill instead which sent me loopy, bled the whole time i was on it (4 months) and zero sex drive. Thats when i decided copper coil was best. Of course during the time I've been waiting to have it fitted my pains came back but now I've had it done the pain seems more intense. Really hope its not Endo i did think maybe it was. Me and partner will eventually like to try for baby no 3 in a couple years. Im nearly 31 now and didn't seem to have a problem conceiving, but I've heard Endo can effect fertility? Is it something you can live with or do you have to have it removed?

Also i don't normally have painful or heavy periods which I've read is a main symptom of Endometriosis. Probably why my doctor didn't make anything of it? I can remember them saying that some women get painful ovulation and its totally normally. 5 days of it though really ?? Hmm

@TheCornishmaid I'm the same, periods are very uneventful and not painful. I am ttc at the moment after 3 losses hence why I'm getting investigations done but asked about the O pain to which the consultant suggested O pain can be normal or it could be endo. I have no other symptoms of endo so really hoping it's not that!

I’d say mine are on the heavier side of normal, if that makes sense!

autumn1610 · 24/08/2022 12:07

@TheCornishmaid so I went to the drs today. Had an exam all looks ok from that side of things internally and she did some swabs to check for infection etc so should have results for Monday (bloody cramping now!) also ordering an ultrasound to check ovaries and womb. She mentioned endometriosis to me as a possibility. Also offered to give me some mefenamic acid to try but I walked out without a prescription, she forgot to print it out and I forgot to ask, got distracted asking about another referral I’m waiting on! Had a google and to be honest I might leave it, I can cope with the cramps during my period it’s the ones outside I’m not happy about.

Esmereldapawpatrol · 24/08/2022 16:13

I have had this since having my daughter, so about 7 years! I have had numerous scans and a Laprioscopy (sp?) and nothing unusual could be found. I have been told it's just something some women have and they don't know why.

It has really affected my mental health as I feel so rubbish and what was 5 days now seems to be getting longer so I don't get a break from it before my period then arrives! I can't take Oestrogen based contraceptives due to breast cancer risk so there isn't much they can do apart from giving strong painkillers.
That's fine, but my issue is that there must be a reason? My GP thought it was probably endometriosis but the consultant dismissed that without examining me. She said I could do two things, take painkillers or have a hysterectomy. That was nearly 3 years ago and I thought it was too drastic but now I am 40 and definitely don't want more kids I have been asked to be referred back to discuss that as an option as the pain is quite unbearable and I have ended up in A&E in the last year as I couldn't sit or stand I was in so much pain!
Sorry that was a bit of an essay but it makes me cross as I feel if it was an issue men suffered with there would probably be a lot more research and knowledge about it!! I hope you get it sorted OP as I feel quite miserable about it.

Thanks for getting back to me, im glad they've offered you a scan i would definitely go for that. I had an appointment for one as they thought cysts could be the culprit but because i had a miscarriage they said the cysts would have shown on the scan i had then! So i didn't bother going to the appointment (was quite upset over the miscarriage so didn't seem important anymore) wish i went now though. Why do they always put things down to infections though i understand they need to check but if its a round the clock thing then i obviously its not going to be that 🙄 i have a smear in a couple weeks so perhaps i should speak to them then, or they could ask me to book another appointment. feel like I always got my legs up in the air for something honestly us woman get it so unfair.

This is like me too i never had the pains befores my eldest of 9yrs came along! What about the progestogen only contraception? I tried this and i never got the ovulation pains, just everything else instead 🙄. I can't believe they dismissed it! I believe Endo has become more known recently so perhaps now they might take it more seriously? I know its only been 3 years. Bless you I really hope you get it sorted! i can only imagine this getting worse for me not better and i can see exactly how it can effect your mental health like that. I feel miserable , i cant have sex with partner during that time i literally feel swollen and bruised inside - trying for our youngest was a painful experience rather than pleasant 🙃
I also have had the copper coil fitted recently and im instantly regretting it now as i can feel everything! And yes i agree with you men dont have to worry so much! Makes me mad!

Thank you. I have an appointment in a few weeks so I am also going to ask for a blood test to check my hormones as I know some of the symptoms can be linked to peri-menopause, just to cover all bases!
I was feeling very low about it and after a holiday I am feeling motivated to get to the bottom of it all and find a way forward.
