Does this warrant accident and emergency??

Just accidentally caught my acrylic, the nail went completely backwards and now looks like this??

There’s also a clear fluid coming from it that you can see in the photo, very painful and seems to be swelling.

Not actually sure what I need to do next :(

Acrylic nails are hardly back street bum lifts in Turkey 🙄

BobbyBleu · 19/08/2022 23:55

I'm a nail tech. You do need to get it seen to and actually I've heard of GPs sending people to A&E with nail damage injuries.

MercuryOnTheRise · 20/08/2022 00:00

You'd hope those giving a back street bum lift in Turkey would have the sense to use a flared butt plug really.

The NHS should not be expected to deal with fall out from vanity spending. It is not what it's there for. If people are stupid enough and have enough money to spend on acrylics, they should have to pay when it goes wrong. I object to subsidising it

Wouldloveanother · 20/08/2022 00:03

Do you object to subsidising people injured playing sports? Which carries an inherently higher risk than getting your nails done?

MercuryOnTheRise · 20/08/2022 00:05

No because playing sports correlates with living healthily and keeping fit and is recommended by the NHS, notably Public health initiatives. There is no health benefit arising from false nails.

Wouldloveanother · 20/08/2022 00:08

Really, all of them? Darts? Go karting? Clay pigeon shooting? BASE jumping? Parachute jumping? Rugby is slowly being revealed as something that seriously damages health - I know 2 men that have had hip replacements through playing rugby and another that has need a series of expensive operations to his nose from breaking it repeatedly.

There is actually, mental health benefits. Now stop saying ridiculous things.

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 20/08/2022 00:10

Personally, I object to the fallout from people who 'elect' to pour excess alcohol down their throats every Fri/Sat night and then end up in A&E with a plethora of problems.

But hey, I'm just a BOF who wants to spoil everyone's fun.....

It needs attention. A&E need to have the authority to charge for attendances such as this. You did not need to have acrylic nails. You presumably paid £50 for the nails; at the very least you shoukd be charged £50 for sorting out the self inflicted mess. Same goes for infected piercings and tattoos.

Oh good Lord Hmm

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 20/08/2022 00:14

Jesus, ouch. No advice about A&E but definitely take off rings that are on that hand

MercuryOnTheRise · 20/08/2022 00:22

Mental health benefits of false nails. I've heard everything now.

LemonSwan · 20/08/2022 00:30

I did not expect this would be the thread of nailing colours to the mast

🤣 Sorry could not help myself!

workiskillingme · 20/08/2022 00:45

Mental health benefits of false nails and charging for beauty related injuries dear me must be bed time 😂

jd88123 · 20/08/2022 00:46

@MercuryOnTheRise so by your thought process fat people shouldn't seek treatment for anything because it's self inflicted, or anti vaxxers shouldn't go to hospital with severe covid or people who abuse alcohol shouldn't get liver transplants as they have all chosen that life choice? Hmm the nhs would be fucked if you were in charge!

That does look incredably sore but as a PP said, what would they do anyway at A and E? Cut it down, bandage it up and take a pain killer. No point spending 6 hours waiting in A and E for that, it'll be busy there on a friday night

If necessary, they would take the nail off, stitch the nail bed if required and then bandage. Probably send her off with some antibiotics too.

What's your charging system for sports injuries?

GlueyMooey · 20/08/2022 10:25

Ouch, I winced when I saw the photo OP. Hopefully it will heal up ok.

Some people get a lot of their self confidence from how they look. And for some that includes nail extensions, lash extensions, etc. Without these things they wouldn't have that confidence boost that some people need.

HTH.

ShaneTwane · 20/08/2022 16:46

Did you get it treated op?
