Period pants recommendations - bum coverage

NC as don't want to link to my normal posting name, not a troll I promise (don't they all say that). Also slight TMI warning.

I'm looking for recommendations for a good full coverage period pant that is absorbent all the way up my backside as well as higher up at front. Just being absorbent between my legs won't be enough.

I've been on the mini pill for 5 years now since my DS was born, so I haven't had to deal with a period in all that time. But we've decided it's time for me to come off the pill as we would like another child.

However, one of my worries (along with all the pain coming back, mini pill luckily keeps most of my endo pain at bay) is how to cope with my really heavy flow. I remember before getting pregnant that I would have to wear a night time pad as well as 2 panty liners at the back to cover my bum and 1 at the front as my period blood would travel up, and I would change them all every couple of hours. I would constantly be on edge about leaks/ruining clothes/staining furniture as my period wouldn't travel down, it would spread out and travel all the way up my butt crack or up the front.

I've tried googling (as I know some MN users will tell me do to that) but I've struggled to find the answer. People asking the same question have been given recommendations about folding a pad between their butt cheeks or using tissue to stop it travelling higher or using a mooncup. Nothing about period pants. Oh, and before anyone recommends it, no I can't use a mooncup or tampon.

I was hoping for recommendations from other period pants users who know that the absorbency layer of their pants is completely full coverage. I've looked at leakproof full briefs from different companies but without buying and testing myself I'm finding it hard to find the right period pants.

I’ve got the Victoria secrets one, got them for £5 each in the sale. Not sure if they’ve got any left but wasn’t too long ago. I have the shortie for night time and they’re amazing, no leaks whatsoever come all the way up front and back and I’ve previously leaked through a maternity pad / double pads at night. The hipsters are good too for day time, good coverage again but not as much as hipster.

Wuka do a super heavy flow high waisted brief where the absorbent part goes right up the front and back.

Also worth looking at the period lady website. She has detailed info and reviews of the top brands and will give personalised advice if you full out a questionnaire. She's the same woman as the nappy lady (cloth nappy expert) and really gets this stuff. There is an associated Facebook group too which is worth checking out.

Uniqlo do some that are absorbent all the way up the back, called Airism, I think there is £10 off first order too.

Modibodi full brief

Tulip, though they are called something else in the UK. Floweret I think.

Thank you all, I'll have a look at these.

Also @Monstamio I will look at the period lady. Advice is what I need.

Definitely not the M & S ones. I'm struggling with the same issue. Made worse that my period is lasting three weeks plus.

PurpleStarfish · 18/08/2022 15:33

@stripeymonster that is one of my worries when I come off the pill (want to get stocked up on pads/pants first). My periods have never been normal length. I'll also give M&S a swerve.
