Is it wise to delay LLETZ

Hello ladies ,

I had a smear test back in March which identified HPV and abnormal cells, and then went for a colposcopy in June. I just received the results back that I have CIN2 and need a LLETZ or cold coagulation procedure done. This is scheduled for mid September, I would never normally think of delaying but I’ve read a lot of stories about a foul smell etc for weeks after. I am getting married in october, my first dress fitting is two days after the procedure and I’m freaking out - I obviously can’t have someone with their head at my crotch when I’m not at my most hygienic.

I am also worried about being able for the wedding a month later, and of course consummating the marriage lol.

I have recently moved overseas and will be returning back to my home country for the dress fitting (and procedure) so I can’t exactly postpone for a week or so.

I am just not really sure what to do, if I was to rearrange, I would do so for beginning of November a week or so after the wedding - we don’t go on our honeymoon until Xmas and this hasn’t actually been booked yet so I can always delay that if needs be.

I just feel so stupid for even considering delaying but I’m so upset and disappointed as I’ve planned and spent a small fortune on the wedding and just want it to be perfect.

Can anyone offer me any advice or words of encouragement (please be nice!)

thanks ♥️

I absolutely would not postpone a LLETZ or other treatment for a CIN2.
What is this smell you refer to? I'd still rather that than developing a more serious condition due to not having a preventative treatment.

I didn’t suffer from a foul smell afterwards. Bit of browny discharge for a few days. That’s it

From what I’ve read (of course I’ve not stopped googling all evening) and heard from a friend who had the same there is a very strong / foul odour a few days after that can last a few weeks. While the discharge is coming out and I guess your cervix is healing.

thanks for replying, I know deep down what I need to do it’s just so upsetting.

that is so good to hear! I’m going to call the alterations lady as I’m actually home next week. I’m wondering if she could do my first try on then, if it’s not too far away, and then a final one in October to avoid any potential embarrassment!

I had a Lletz and didn't have anything like you're describing.

I wouldn't postpone.

Thank you Kirinm, I think I really need to get off google! Because a couple of reassuring posts here and I’ve calmed right down 🤣.

Maybe just mention it to the alterations lady too? She’s female and hopefully will be understanding x

@Noodlehen talk to the medical team for advice. I had CIN2 and was offered the same procedure - albeit as we went into first lockdown.

I was apprehensive and wanted more info. I do work in a related field and read about watch and wait with CIN2. I researched and talked to the team and preferred to watch and wait. I did and had repeats smears and biopsy 6 months later. My diagosis was reduced to CIN1. Went to annual check ups and no abnormal cells 3 years later.

I had a treatment plan that if I maintained at CIN2 for 24 months I would have the procedure.

however this may not work for everyone, so discuss and get more info. They can always delay the procedure for a few months till after your wedding. Discuss your concerns and see what they can suggest

Same here. I did have to take some time off as I bled a fair bit during it but otherwise, all good. It was only a few days, and if I needed one again, I get it no matter what was happening elsewhere in my life.

bumpytrumpy · 09/08/2022 22:01

I'd be trying to bring it forward not delay! Mine was done within a week of smear results. Mid sept seems a long time away.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 09/08/2022 22:02

I had a lletz with top hat - which I had to Google after to see what it meant!

I did have some discharge after. Also I was told no sex for 4 weeks.

Noodlehen · 09/08/2022 22:05

Yea I think I will. She’s a farmers wife they seem to be more hardy. She may have some advice or not even care.

This is really interesting.

I am from Ireland, and recently there was a scandal with their smear tests where they gave women the wrong results and as a result some died / or are dying from cancer now. So I feel like they are super cautious and may just push for me to go ahead. I will also speak to my GP there and see what he thinks!

@bumpytrumpy it did seem long to me too, even the wait between appointments. They told me I’d need the colposcopy in March but I didn’t have it until June! The healthcare in Ireland is shocking with the wait lists. I told them I’m happy to attend any hospital in the country and they’ve still left it that long.

I was CIN2 and had this. Tbh I did smell but if you shower twice a day, change pads regularly and I used a femfresh spray, no1 noticed apart from myself. I wouldn't want someone in my crotch area that's for sure. My recovery lasted 6 weeks too Envy

resuwen · 10/08/2022 09:28

I had a Lletz and didn't notice a smell, but it did make me feel very unwell for a week or two.

3babyxx · 02/02/2023 13:07

I’m on day 7 I have started bright red bleeding today haven’t had any before this. Just a heavy stinky discharge which has stopped now! But I feel abit drained .. defo get it done and if you do feel like you smell just explain to the lady who is doing your dress fitting like somebody else said x

Nottodaty · 02/02/2023 13:12

I’ve had this treatment honestly can’t remember any smell - discharge & slight cramping. I wouldn’t delay it.

Noodlehen · 03/02/2023 04:07

Thanks for your responses above. This was back in august. I ended up talking to nurse and delaying until after wedding. Had my appt in November and the majority of cells had cleared up, so they didn’t do the Lletz and said they will monitor every 6 months. Due back in May!

@Noodlehen that is amazing and so lucky the cells cleared up! Were you nervous at all delaying? I am so nervous waiting for my biospy results. I keep thinking the worst. I suffer from health anxiety. I wish I could be one of those people who did not worry.
