Itching as the only thrush symptom?

I went to the GP 2 weeks ago and she did a vaginal swab as I'd been experiencing itching on the inside of my labia majora. It came back positive for thrush, never had it before but can only think it's because I've been pretty run down with stress and a bout of Covid. I used a Canesten pessary a week ago and have been applying the 2% cream externally since then but it's still so itchy! Especially at night in bed when I'm warm and there's no distractions. Is it normal for external itching to be the only symptom? No pain or discharge. I haven't tried the fluconazole pill yet.

I find salt baths can really help with the itching. Hope you feel better soon.

Itching at night can be worms.

Itching at night can be worms.

It isn't, I've seen the GP and it's definitely thrush

When I get thrush It itches constantly, drives me mad. Try another pessary and apply the cream several times a day. If it doesn't ease I'd go back to gp

It's miserable isn't it? Thanks, I'll try that. I have a follow-up with the GP in 10 days so will mention it then if it hasn't gone

If you are low on oestrogen your vagina can be very dry and this can make the itching worse and also mean there’s a lack of the general white discharge you often get with thrush. You might need some internal oestrogen cream like Ovestin or Vagifem to help soothe things. (I have sjorgens syndrome and I’m in early menopause aged 41 and suffer with recurrent thrush due to these things and the Ovestin cream really help. I also use Canestan internal cream rather than the pessary as it’s absorbed more easily if you’re already sore and dry).

The oral one worked for me for a while. BUT post menopause I'm stuck with it. NO soaps etc near the region. Cold flannel wash at night then cream helps

Thank you for your reply. I wondered about this as I have been feeling dryer than usual around the vaginal area, but I'm not near menopausal age and not on hormonal contraception so I'm not sure what could upset my levels. I'll mention it when I go back to the doctor
