Episiotomy recovery?

Hi everyone, I'm 4 weeks + 2 days pp and still in pain from my episiotomy (forceps delivery).

My scar has healed nicely from the outside, you can't even see the cut unless you look closely but from inside it's looking and feeling quite sore, I had a look yesterday and it's like a red strip possibly where the stitches are? It's not bleeding or anything. Just looks like grazed sore skin and because of it that whole side of my vag is so painful. Yesterday was bad, the pain was there all day, today I thought it was better but the pain started again at the end of the day. I've noticed it's when I've been standing for ages, or if I've been on my feet and really active. I've always had this feeling but it seems to have got worse in the last few days.

Also once I've finished peeing and squeeze inwards, it's so painful! Like as if I've got vaginal prolapse because it seems to go in quite a lot (don't know if that makes sense). From 2 weeks pp my whole vulva felt super tight especially when squeezing in as if the stitches were too tight, although that feeling has subsided pretty much. Also not sure if it's just in my head but I think I'm peeing less, sometimes only a tiny bit comes out but I felt the urgency to go toilet. I am eating and drinking way less so it could just be that 🤷🏻‍♀️

Im going to contact my GP tomorrow when they open, but I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience? I really thought I'd have healed by now! This recovery has been rough ...

I'm 3 weeks +4 days postpartum.. I got an Episiotomy.. The wound gets painful and stings time to time and the corners of my stitches changed from purple to white? Is this normal? I'm healing very slowly... It worries me

I had an episiotomy and third degree tear. It took along time to get better. At 6 week check I was told the wound had granulated it was left another 6 weeks to try andbheal itself. It still wasn't right so had silver nitrate treatment and then it healed really quickly. If it doesn't feel it is healing properly definitely get it checked out.

I had an episiotomy with my ds, it was very painful for the first week and the midwife ended up cutting a few stitches to ease the tightness. I must say, it never fully felt ok. For a few years, I'd have pain during sex in certain positions, it would ache during my period and if I stood for long periods it would ache. I learnt to live with it. However, when I had my dd 7 years after, I tore along the scar and it had to be restitched. I haven't had any problems since! The midwife did a wonderful job!

So, my advice would be to see your gp in case it needs to be restitched or needs medication to help it heal correctly.

Congrats on your baby, good luck at the drs.

So I went to the GP for my pain and turns out I had an infection 😣 just finished my course of antibiotics and I'm feeling much better but haven't had a chance to look down there yet.

I think 3 weeks is still pretty soon, I remember I was getting twinges and sharp pains here and there. But if you feel sore, tightness or pain that is constant I would say ask the GP to check your stitches so you can rule out an infection. They do say it takes around 3-4 weeks to heal properly though so it could also just be that. I didn't ever have the guts to look at my stitches so I have no clue about colours, good luck x

Baby is almost a year old and I didn't have an infection but have had continuous pain for months after my episiotomy. I finally got to see a hospital gynaecologist and she gave me a HRT cream as she explained that as my period hadn't yet returned my hormones wouldn't be helping with the healing of the perineum etc. It has made SUCH a difference, so highly recommend pursuing this if needed.
