laparoscopy

After some advice from anyone in a similar situation please!
Since having three babies my periods have been slightly different. Symptoms: ovulation cramping, spot of blood on wiping during ovulation, painful sex in certain positions and 3 times have had a spot of blood on wiping after sex, I get bloating, and also my periods have started with 3-4 days of spotting before properly arriving, though still regular.
I have had scans, smear tests and biopsy from my cervix and nothing has been found. I has a deep endometriosis scan, where they thought they could see some signs of endometriosis, but they can't diagnose from the scan so I've been on the waiting list for laparoscopy.

7 months later I have finally have been given a date BUT it's 1 week before I start a new job! Do you think I'm being unrealistic in thinking I'll be recovered in time? I can cope with my symptoms but it's the anxiety of not knowing what has been causing them that is bothering me more (if that makes sense), but I'm wondering if I should try to put the surgery back! Any thoughts?

Thank you!

I had a laparoscopy on the Thursday night & was able to collect ds from school the afternoon after, the cuts are probably 1cm except for the one they do in your belly button which is 2.5 cm at most, I had 1 stitch in the small cuts & butterflies in the larger one. You will be bruised, I started taking arnica tablets as soon as I got back from theatre & also Rennie Deflatine for the gas pain, I only needed paracetamol for 24 hous after. I was up & dressed within an hour of returning from theatre & went home 2 hours after.

You should take advice from your surgeon. A quick diagnostic laparoscopy may be no problem depending on the job, but a more extensive excision of endo would make it more difficult.

I would not put the surgery back given how long you've already waited for it. You need to find out what has been causing this and endometriosis cannot be ruled out given your symptoms.

I've had this type of surgery and was advised by the surgeon to have two days off post operation. In your case I would contact the surgical team beforehand and you do not want a diagnostic lap; if endo is found it needs to be excised.
One thing I would ensure is that you are not told about the findings of this op whilst you are in the recovery room because this is poor practice. You need to be informed of the lap findings when you are fully awake and out of the recovery room.

Thank you, yes these are my thoughts too. I think I’ll have to go ahead, I just get very anxious about this sort of thing and especially having a general. I’m now also thinking ‘what if’ something nasty other than endometriosis is found and I’ve already waited 7 months, but I guess I have to try to stop my mind wandering

What is your new job, because returning to work a week after a laparoscopy will obviously depend on what it is you're doing.
It wouldn't be advisable to go to work a week later if you were, say, a firefighter or had a job where you did a lot of heavy lifting/moving!

To some extent it depends if they find any disease. I was given a sick note for two weeks after my laparoscopy but endometriosis was found and removed. I was still a bit weary after a week honestly.
