No periods for 17 months.. nobody taking seriously

I already have a DS who is 4 so realise I am very lucky.

I got the copper coil after he was born and got it removed a year later to try for another baby.

My periods came back regular, although heavy my last period was in Novemeber 2020, I have been to the doctors around 4 times and they keep saying come back on the 3rd day of your period for tests for fertility..... I'm not getting that period to do that.

I am only 29, I am slightly overweight but slowly losing it, to see if this helps but nobody is taking me seriously, I have booked an appointment for next week to speak to the doctor again, the last time I went was late last year.

Nothing else wrong, except always feel a little grumpy and that my body needs a period to release my frustration and lack of sex drive, although still trying 3-4x a week to get pregnant.

I feel at a loss, I've been for a scan last year nothing untoward. How do I advocate for myself this time round and ask them to take some action?

Just go back, preferably see a different gp and make clear you want fertility investigations. I would’ve thought at your age this would be done on nhs but if not would private be an option?

RidingMyBike · 19/06/2022 19:39

I'd go back and insist you need this investigating? Mine didn't come back until 11 months post partum, which I checked with my GO and she said they investigate if it's more than a year? It's also because it can be a problem if the womb lining builds up too much?
Can you ask to see a different GP? Maybe a women's health specialist?

I have PCOS and have been told you need to have a period once in a while else your endometrium can get really thick and is more likely to get a build up of abnormal cells. Am surprised you haven't been offered something to force a period.

My periods also didn't come back until 16 months PP andI was told this then too

Have you had any blood tests? If not ask to have your prolactin level done to rule out high prolactin levels. It can be secondary to thyroid problems or due to overactive pituitary.

SniffletheDinosaur · 19/06/2022 20:02

Insist on blood tests. My periods stopped for months before I was diagnosed with a thyroid imbalance aged 23.

I'm in a similar position other than ttc. I'm 32 and haven't had a period for 14 months now. I've had blood tests and an ultrasound as well as my routine smear and all came back 'clear'. My GP isn't interested and won't do any further investigations.

I have almost constant period type cramps along with pms symptoms and random spotting but they don't seem at all interested, it's so frustrating.

My periods returned to normal for a year after having DS, they then where sporadic after having the coil and then stopped fully in November 2020, I have an appointment later today, so will request some more bloods .
