Help what is wrong with my vagina?

Firstsitdowntoday · 26/05/2022 16:17

I have had stinging and burning pain around the opening of my vagina for 3 weeks. First the gp thought it was thrush and prescribed cream and tablet. Improved for about a day and then symptoms came back. So gp prescribed long course of tablets and took a swab. No improvement so was given demo ate to use. No improvement told to use sudocream and this point swab came back negative for everything.
The skin in my vagina and vuvla is red and sore and is starting to split. I can hardly walk. I have also tried boric acid pessary, balance activ and multi gyn. The only thin giving me some relief is the topida spray I have started using. I have not worn underwear for the last three days but it isn't getting better. I am at the end of my tether. And due to go on holiday with kids next week....not sure how I am going to cope.

@Afterfire that's interesting as in the last couple of years I have had a lot of uti having very rarely had them before. How do the diagnose it is a blood test. I think every female gp at my surgery has looked at my vagina over the last three weeks and no one has ever mentioned this could be the issue.

lichen sclerosus- sometimes you can't see them- medical professional might need to have a look.

I occasionally use dermovate for inverse psoriasis - it's all around my vulva and right up my bum crack.

It's burns awfully and the skin splits.

I find the best relief comes from using Doublebase flare relief which I get from
Amazon or Sainsburys.

I use it instead of soap and apply it after washing too. Plus I use it on toilet paper throughout the day when needed.

I have it in those places as well it's a nightmare! I was given dovobet by one doctor years ago and have had it on repeat prescription since, and was told by a different doctor yesterday "you can't use that there"
What do you find helps best with flares and itching and burning? I need to prepare for my ointment being stopped I've been past myself. Oh and I have dark patches around and in my vulva, apparently because of the scratching and psoriasis? Never heard of that I thought I had melanoma.

I had something similar and had an urgent referral to gynae. They did go used dryness and suggested washing with dermol 500 oointlent and using diprobase ointment as a moisturiser, also using it inside if needed too.

the steroid creams etc given to me prior to this just irritated jt more. I went months without knickers!

TheGlitterati · 26/05/2022 18:33

Did go used dryness? Diagnosed.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 26/05/2022 18:33

ask for an appointment with a vulval dermatologist. Hope you feel better soon.

You don’t need a blood test. They should just prescribe the cream. It’s such a low dose it works locally and doesn’t affect blood test results so there should be no reason they can’t prescribe it.

I had this terribly badly between ages of 48 and 57 combined with awful itching , not inside but over the area, I scratched myself red raw at times. Sudocrem kind of worked in taking the worse of it , but it didn't solve - one day out the blue it just stopped- given the age range I can only conclude it was menopause related. Truly awful. You are quite young though and slightly different symptoms , so I do think you should see your doctor pronto-

You haven't changed your washing powder, fabric conditioner or loo roll have you? I react to certain detergents or brands of loo roll. Just wonder if it could be that as you've ruled out pretty much everything else.

Firstsitdowntoday · 26/05/2022 19:13

No change in washing powder or loo roll I am super careful about those things as I have had so many utis. I have just been researching and it shows swabs for thrush could come back negative if you were already on treatment which I was. I still think it may be thrush (I had had alot of antibiotics for a recurrent uti since the start of april). It is almost like my discharge is an irritant and is causing inflammation where it touches.

If you do have thrush you may need a longer course of the oral tablets to clear it - as well as the oestrogen cream- if it’s persistent. I’ve had 3 month courses of 50mg daily Fluconazole before.

(I have a lot of autoimmune conditions including Addisons and sjorgens/ lupus overlap which cause a lot of issues like this).

Firstsitdowntoday · 26/05/2022 19:47

@Afterfire when you had that three month course how quickly did you start to feel better? I did a week of 50mg daily for fluconazole and had no improvement.

Being very honest it was towards the very end of the course. It took a long time! And even then I wasn’t convinced it was completely gone. But it had. I think it was just really invasive. I also started to take Biokault probiotic capsules every day since then and it definitely helps (I ended up with oesophageal thrush as well as vaginal, it was just horrendous).

Firstsitdowntoday · 26/05/2022 20:02

Oh my god how did you manage for a 3 months.....I am struggling after 3 weeks.

It was really ffing awful. Really awful. It was over Christmas last year and was one of the worst times of my life in terms of feeling unwell! You have my sympathies.

ToastofLandon · 26/05/2022 20:20

I’m so sorry, completely sympathise I’m trying to get to the problem of vaginal issues myself. If you haven’t already

  1. have a sexual health screening

  2. get your oestrogen levels checked (as others said it could be perimenapause)

  3. Theres a FB group I’ve found it really helpful called ‘BV/Yeast/UTI support group’

  4. start taking womens probiotics they can really help

OkPedro · 26/05/2022 20:25

Sounds so painful op 💜

I hope you get sorted soon

wingingit33 · 01/06/2022 21:06

OP you're me!! But I'm on day 5 of burning and in so much pain. I had a baby 14 weeks ago (csection and not breastfeeding). Burning started during my first period post birth last week. Took fluconazole - nothing; GP prescribed pessary - nothing; back to GP who's put me on a week of fluconazole - so far nothing. Next step is replens I think.

Firstsitdowntoday · 02/06/2022 07:33

I have been prescribed 150mg of fluconazole daily for three weeks. Just starting to see an improvement.
