Sore in vagina from thrush

Eastereggglutton · 26/05/2022 14:01

I have been suffering with really bad thrush, now been prescribed a course of fluconazole which seems to be helping but I still have one patch just inside my vagina that is so sore it is nearly bleeding. I can hardly walk at the moment with it.
Does anyone have and recommendation as to how to speed up the healing of this sore. I am currently sat with no knickers on to get the air to it.
I am due to go on holiday on Saturday and not sure how I am going to cope if this does not heal up.

Ouch! Sounds horrible.
Have you asked for anything topical from GP? I'd be tempted to see if there is something similar to sudocreme that's prescribed for the sore skin to help soothe it or heal sores?

I am going to contact the gp tomorrow, I have tried using sudocream on their previous advice but can't get it to adhere to the inside of my vagina, it has helped on my labia and perineum which has healed much quicker.

Canestan cream usually helps me and can get it over the counter!

have you already tried a pessary for thrush? just thought it might help if it's directly applied as well?

JellyBellyNelly · 18/06/2022 19:03

Op, are you sure it’s Thrush and not Lichen’s?

Reduce your sugar intake as much as possible.

Loose pants or nothing if you can.

I find acitgel very good for balancing and can be used internally as well as externally.

Have a warm bath with 4 or so drops of tea tree oil in. Swoosh around ya bits. Repeat every day. Just 5 min shallow bath or so

I have tried thrush cream, pessary and now a three week course of flucanazol...still suffering. I have also tried boric acid and actigel as well as yogurt and daily probiotic.

Still can't walk and now in week 8. Now not sure it is thrush. Currently been using dermovate for over a week which is making no difference. The only respite was a big improvement when I had my period. GP seems at a loss, worried being bed bound like this is going to be my life now.

Ovestin cream on prescription from the gp may help. It’s essentially very low does oestrogen that will help to plump up the walls of the vagina and rehydrate it. I suffer with a lot of oral and vaginal thrush due to autoimmune issues and this makes a huge difference for me (it doesn’t matter how old you are, you don’t need to be menopausal to use it, the oestrogen is extremely low dose and only absorbed locally).

I have a gynae appointment in a week and a half. I will ask about ovestin. At this point I am willing to try anything, but the GP has never mentioned this and I have seen numerous GP's numerous times.

Most GPs know extremely little about oestrogen in general and it’s role in the health of the vagina- evidenced by how many threads there are in the menopause section with women saying their Gp either won’t prescribe them HRT / hasn’t heard of various internal oestrogen creams / or simply prescribes the wrong things.

You can also get Canestan internal cream which is 10% instead of the 2% external cream. It comes in a pre filled applicator so you can either use it as one dose which is quite soothing in itself or you can squeeze a little out each day and apply it internally yourself. I get that on prescription regularly as I cannot dissolve the pessaries due to sjorgens syndrome.
