Endo and the coil

Hi there! Have posted before re endometriosis- finally spoke to a specialist last year who confirmed that all of my symptoms are basically classic endo and therefore it's a very likely diagnosis. I had the mirena coil inserted (had been on the pill since I was a teen but came off it when TTC and didn't want to go back on it post baby as I didn't like the side effects) and it seemed to really help for the first while but over the last few months my symptoms have been coming back, and I have also been having some new symptoms. This month for example I had pain for about a week before I started spotting- general lower back and pelvic pain, as well as discomfort when my bladder was full, and bad fatigue, which I used to have before, but on top of that I've started to get more and more pain in my bum, both a sort of cramping feeling but also stabbing/shooting pains that stop me in my tracks. I have also had a sharp pain in what feels like my left ovary on and off for the last few months. Does anyone know what the next steps are? Do I go back? Will they just send me a way and tell me to persist for a year? It took me almost 20 years to even get to a stage where someone said "oh yes, this is probably what's wrong" so I feel sort of preemptively exhausted at the idea of having another (albeit as of yet imaginary) battle on my hands... any advice would be welcome!

Yes I would go back to see this consultant if possible. Mirena coil is not always suitable for women with endometriosis and endometriosis is usually seen and excised via a laparoscopy operation.

Am no expert but have been previously diagnosed with endometriosis and what you are describing certainly sounds like endometriosis to me. Any pain that is cyclical in nature and or gets worse up to and including menses should be checked out to see if endometriosis is present. If finances allow that you can see a gynae as a private patient at say the local private hospital (e.g Nuffield, Spire) I would see this person for an initial consultation.

Would also suggest you keep a daily pain and symptom diary if you do not already do this noting everything.

Go back - persist, and don't get fobbed off.

Next steps are probably an ultrasound scan, but if they don't find anything then you're kind of stuck. They can't diagnose Endo without a laparoscopy. You could ask for a colonoscopy to investigate bowel endo - but for info I have bowel endo and the colonoscopy didn't pick it up. It was only found through surgery.

And yeah - arsedaggers - perfect username. I know exactly how that feels.
