Going grey at 27

Literally as the title says...

Had a baby at 25 in 2020 and naturally my hair started to fall out afterwards but since that, it's started to grow back grey 😭

I know I can dye it, I know I can 'grow older gracefully' but 27 and going grey makes me feel a bit shit tbh.

Anyone else going grey and able to make me feel slightly better about myself?

Hate the hairdressers but looks like I'll be booking myself in more often🤦🏽‍♀️

I think that's a normal age to start
Many start younger
I swear I keep seeing one on my 2 year old !

fedup078 · 16/05/2022 18:15

I think I was 25

I'd always had one or two in my 20s. Stress, particularly of a new baby and lockdown is potentially the cause. Apparently quite a few people had their gray increase significantly over lockdown, me included but it seems to have settled, I'd leave it a little while and see if it increases. Hair is a wonderful thing, if you choose to dye it and don't like it you can also cut it out/grow it out etc.

I don't currently dye my hair as I really like my dark, chocolate colour but if I did I don't think I'd do a full head colour, I'd do high/low lights so that they merge to avoid the roots coming through.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! (In the least mean way!)

Of course it's great that I can dye and cut it so it's not a real issue I guess, but I always thought I'd be much older when I started to get greys!

Must be the combo of pregnancy / post baby hormones and stress of a toddler 😂

I started in my early twenties, but since childbirth and postpartum hair loss the regrowth is grey, same as yours. So I have a lot more greys now (early thirties) and feel it's more noticeable.
I'm hoping to run with it and just accept them. I'm too lazy for dying. But also my husband has a similar amount of grey and it looks fine on him. Why can't I love mine?! I guess it's social conditioning (women must look young all their lives etc) and that makes me more determined to defeat it! But there's still a chance I'll crack and reach for the dye...

What colour is your hair? I think it's a lot easier to blend it in if you're fair haired.

I’m 33 and if I didn’t dye my hair every 3 weeks I’d be totally grey. Started going grey at 24. Snide on me.

Thanks ladies, you've all made me feel much better about it.

Wish I could grow older gracefully but I still look / feel (and sometimes act lol) about 18. I forget that's nearly a decade ago now and I'm a fully fledged adult (supposedly) 😂

Another one here - also had my first baby at 25 in 2020 and now have a quite large grey strip running through my hair.

I had the odd couple before but nothing like this and wasn't expecting quite so many at this age either, but to be honest I'm too tired most of the time to pay it much attention! I have had it dyed once though and it looked fab for a few months

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/06/2022 23:58

It’s not that unusual - but often you will just have a bit of grey for a long time, my sister got them around that age and she is still mostly not-grey 20 years later.

Sunnytwobridges · 15/06/2022 01:19

I found a gray hair in my DDs hair when she was 17/18. It was pretty long so she probably had it for a while. She’s 26 now and still has a couple of gray hairs. I dated graying in my early 30s, was shocking really but my dad started graying around that age too.

DPotter · 15/06/2022 02:23

Started going grey at 15 - runs in the family. I'm now totally white and have been for 10 yrs or more.

Dyed my hair natural colours for many years. I've had blue streaks, green streaks, red streaks and turquoise. Am currently purple and I love it!

RhiRhi1996 · 15/06/2022 02:28

I'm 26 , and got my first grey hair at 21. Now I have loads! It is extremely noticeable.

My mum told me she first got a grey hair at like 19 or something.

It is a bit annoying but My husband actually really likes it and doesn't want me to dye it and wants me to grow it our fully grey lol. But I am not that fully grey for that to happen

It doesn't really bother me to be honest.

bozna · 15/06/2022 02:31

I started going grey in 20s. I'm 30's now but dye my hair so not really bothered as could have so much worse health wise than a grey hair, but it's actually shocking how many people have commented on a stray grey! Like it's the worse thing. Have so much respect for women who can lead and go grey naturally because it's still not acceptable

elp30 · 15/06/2022 12:41

My natural hair color is charcoal black but at 18, I started to show a few strands white hairs but by 25, it was starting to get more noticeable so I started dyeing it.
By 40, my hair was in terrible condition and the dyeing time went from every six weeks to every four to every two.
At age 45, I finally decided I would stop dyeing my shoulder length hair and got a pixie cut. I was shocked that my hair was 70% white and not even grey. I'm 51 now and it's 95% white-hair.

I like that over the years, people have been so nice about it. They compliment the color and there are so many women who wear it like I do and some are so much younger than me.
