I am worried and confused about what is happening, any advice would be greatly received.

started period yesterday, was very very light as it often is at the beginning.

got up at about 4am today for a wee, little bit heavier but still quite light.

woke up at 8am and went to the en-suite for a wee, as I walked into the en-suite I felt blood running out, but it was so heavy it went through my pad, all down my legs and pj’s covered in blood. I stood and took them off and shouted dp to get some baby wipes to clean myself up as my legs and feet had blood on.

when I was stood trying to clean myself up it started running out again, all over the floor. Splashed up the walls and there was a pool of blood on the floor about the size of a side plate.

still bleeding now but just much heavier than what is normal for me. No clots at anytime.

not sure if it is connected but on Wednesday night at 11pm totally out of the blue I got the most awful tummy ache. It lasted about 50 minutes and I was frozen with it it hurt so much, was in tears with it, then it just stopped as strangely as it started.

any ideas what is happening? Since this morning I feel very tired, dizzy and slightly confused

thank you

Glad to read you're on hold to 111 OP.
A few years ago I had something very similar. I just kept trying to sort it out myself by resting; I collapsed and had to have two lots of blood and a d&c, though not sure if they do those these days.
Hope you'll be ok.

Workinghardeveryday · 07/05/2022 14:26

@angieloumc that’s terrible!

do you know what caused it?

waiting for a call back from out of hours gp

A little like you I had very bad tummy pain a few days prior to it. The dr said it was 'retained products of conception' though it was a big shock to me as I was in my mid 40's and actually thought I was peri menopausal, and had a coil fitted, which obviously had to cone out. I was much better after the transfusions though.
I hope they call you back pretty sharpish.

WhatIsThisPlease · 07/05/2022 14:38

How old are you OP?

Goodness me! What does ‘retained products of conception’ mean?

I have also been thinking I could be peri menopausal!

spoke to male doctor. Waste of time. He said my tummy pain the couple of nights before was period pain (definitely was not). The gushing of blood this morning was a heavy period nothing more. I explained I took a picture of it and showed my mum who was a nurse and stepdad who was a paramedic and they said not normal and to ring 111. Have no confidence in what he said

I had massive blood loss last year. It was gastro, not gynae but 111 were useless. Despite me telling them what had happened and that I was unable to function, they told me to wait and see my GP. By the next day my haemoglobin was 55 and I was near collapse. I needed three transfusions.

Consider A&E even if they don’t advise it.

angieloumc · 07/05/2022 15:11

It means I was probably pregnant but it had come away. My hb was like Tina's very low, 4.6 I believe. Also as she mentions it may be worth considering A&E as it could very well turn into a severe emergency.

Workinghardeveryday · 07/05/2022 15:22

Thank you all.

would you still consider a&e even if my blood loss now is just normal?

it’s more the dizzy and tiredness bothering me now

I would go to A&E with this. You've lost a large amount of blood with no obvious reason and there's a risk that it will happen again. Be firm that this is not something that happens when you have your period.

BlanketsBanned · 07/05/2022 15:42

Yes go to hospital, the dizzyness and tiredness could be the blood loss, you need blood tests. Hope you feel better soon.

TinaYouFatLard · 07/05/2022 16:07

Yes, after my experience I would definitely advise you to go.

angieloumc · 07/05/2022 17:05

Absolutely do go, and if you get chance and feel up to it, let us know how you are.

Hawkins001 · 07/05/2022 17:08

All the best and positivity op

Workinghardeveryday · 07/05/2022 18:16

Thank you all.

I am lying down and might go later, just feel like they will think I am over reacting if I go

That happened to me, it was a miscarriage but early and I did not know I was pregnant. I never had regular periods. Not pleasant but it stopped after a day or so. Do seek medical advice promptly, op.

Retained products of conception are bits left in the womb after miscarriage (eg placenta), which your body is expelling - a good thing; sometimes not all is expelled resulting in having to have medication or a d&c.
