Menstrual disc?

I've had issues with bleeding during sex on and off for over 10 y, I have a cervical ectropion and have occasional blessing between periods too. I am under the gynae for investigations re the intermenstrual bleeding and very bad pain I have during my period

So far US scan shows a small fibroid, I have a couple of polyps that may also be a cause. My cervical screening has come back clear.

The bleeding during sex is really getting me down. We're really not having much PIV just because of the mess and I'm struggling to think this is never going to get any better. There's a rare time (1 in 5) with no bleeding but the idea of anything spontaneous including holiday sex on white sheets is right out.

I've been looking at menstrual discs, a bit like a mooncup but flat which are advertised as being useful for mess free sex. It looks like there is a disposable type and a thicker reusable type. Has anyone tried? Do you think they would work in this situation?

A traditional diaphragm did work, provided it wasn’t full to start with. I’m not sure how easy they are to acquire these days. It was washable but never looked pristine.
does that help?

What about a sponge or soft cup?

I have used the disposable ones and had PIV sex during period with no mess. Recently purchased a reusable one but it’s quite thick and not so comfortable for general wear (I am post baby so unsure if it’s just those changes)…

Amazon!

The discs look like a diaphragm. The advantage of a diaphragm would be if you could get it fitted (and prescribed on the NHS, but you may not want to).

Don't think you can get them on the NHS anymore but happy to be corrected.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor
i don’t know. You are probably right. It may not be worth training staff to fit them as demand would be very low.

I wasn't joking about Amazon, you can buy them on there .

I never doubted you!
i’m not sure what the difference between that and a disc would be. Perhaps a wider range of sizes. They’re only really a container for spermicide after all.

I think contraceptive diaphragms just aren't effective enough to be popular anymore.

I think I'll try the thin disposable ones and see how I get on first. I know that's not such an environmental option but I'll at least know if it works for me
