Bleeding after 2 years

I'm 50 and haven't had a period for about 2 years. Last night I was shocked to find that I was bleeding lightly. Just enough for a panty liner. It seems to have stopped now but I googled and am terrified I've got cancer. I've made an appointment with the doctor in 2 weeks but was wondering if anyone had experienced the same thing??

This happened to me. I went for a hysteroscopy. They couldn't find anything. The consultant said sometimes its just a late release of hormones. It's never happened since.
Hope it's the same for you. x

I had very similar - it was a uterine polyp diagnosed on ultrasound scan and was removed easily and just required an overnight hospital stay.
I would advise you to get it checked out though, there are lots of causes for this symptom and not always the worst case scenario.

Thanks for replying. I feel about better now 🙂

I'm nearly 51 Popsicle and have not had a period for almost 11 months. Like you I had light spotting/bleeding suddenly. Am going to phone my GP tomorrow. Best to get it checked.

dizzydizzydizzy · 02/05/2022 20:57

I had this. GP sent me to Gynae on 2 week pathway. Gynae did scan and said nothing to worry about. Explained that periods stopping is a gradual process.

BeanAnTae · 03/05/2022 20:15

Okay, GP said it's not Postmeno bleeding in my case. I had Covid last month, bad PMT symptoms and cycle restarted. Am being pulled in to check my cervix as a precaution.

Hope you get sorted op.

AnyFucker · 03/05/2022 20:17

Yes. It turned out to be harmless polyps on the cervix. Now removed and symptom-free.

BeanAnTae · 17/05/2022 16:15

Update: GP exam went fine but she's referring me for a scan of the uterine lining just to be on the safe side.

Girlintheframe · 17/05/2022 16:26

This has happened to me twice. Both times I had biopsies done and both time they came back negative. From what the gynecologist said it's very common

LetitiaLeghorn · 17/05/2022 18:09

Great news. Glad it went well, even when you don't think there's anything wrong, it's always a relief to hear them say it! And it's good they're doing belts and braces. I just got, yeah you're fine and booted out the door! Mind you, when I got referred to the breast clinic, the doctor told me off for wasting his time and said if I still had problems not to bother him by going back.
Gotta love the NHS. 😆

Claralou199 · 17/05/2022 18:23

This happened to my DM after 4 years of having no period. She had to get a biopsy but all was fine.

BeanAnTae · 01/06/2022 14:52

Ultrasound scan showed no abnormalities - endometrial lining was 3mm. Glad I got it checked.

MrsDrudge · 01/06/2022 20:08

Pleased to hear it was nothing worrying @BeanAnTae

BeanAnTae · 02/06/2022 10:43

Oh thank you MrsDrudge - I wasn't expecting the sonographer to give me the results there and then so was really relieved to see all was okay. Had an internal and external scan. I'm glad I got it checked.
