3rd period this month

Not sure is anyone can relate or advice before I try to get a Dr's appointment.

Basically this morning I've come on my 3rd period of this month. My first one ended on the 2nd for my next one to start exactly a week later on the 9th.

I'm not taking any contraception, the only tablets I take are a multi vit and a prescribed iron. I'm 31 if that counts towards anything. Dh and I have been trying for baby number 2, so I put the random second bleed down to maybe a chemical or my body being weird, but now it's just 2 weeks after that one finished and I'm bleeding again...

I've always been 27-29 days between bleeds and a solid 4 days of bleeding.

My diet hasn't changed drastically recently, I've not lost a substantial amount of weight.

Sorry trying to cover all bases to see if someone can pinpoint what might be going on.

Tia

I’m not a doctor but Is this the first time this has happened?
Is it like a normal period in volume and length?
Contraception medication can sometimes cause breakthrough bleeding but you say you’re not taking any. Could you have been pregnant without realising?

I’d make an appointment with your doctor.

Honestly my advice would be to go straight to a gynaecologist privately, if you can.

I don't say this to scare you or think that there's anything necessarily wrong. But for your own peace of mind you need an answer to this from a specialist not a GP.

Ohsoworried · 29/04/2022 07:57

I had similar (2 very polonged periods every month) and had a polyp which was removed and now back to norm.

ZackaryQuack · 29/04/2022 08:01

As far as I can remember, yeah, never had this before.
It's exactly like a normal period, same volume, exactly 4 days (well time will tell on this one)
Maybe yes on not knowing and being, because we are trying.

I'll try and get through to them. Thank you for answering

I know this sounds entirely stupid @GrandRapids but I've never gone private for anything before how would I go about it? Is it as simple as googling and calling?

Thank you @Ohsoworried it's comforting to know I'm not the first to have this weirdness and probably not the last.

If you can’t get through on the phone does your doctor do “e consult” ? Look for your doctor’s surgery website, it should tell you if they do. Is so You fill in an online form with your symptoms, send it in, the doctor reads it and he’ll either do a telephone consultation with you or an appointment will be made to see him/ her.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 29/04/2022 08:10

hi @ZackaryQuack have you had covid?

because my DD-early 20's is having the same thing. She keeps thinking it is stopping and then it starts again. Obviously anecdotal but have heard covid can disrupt periods.

She is now at the point of calling GP- good luck!!

FKATondelayo · 29/04/2022 08:12

You don't need to go private. Contact your local sexual health clinic direct and request an appointment. You don't need a GP referral and they will prioritise unexplained bleeding.

I too used to have random frequent periods and it was just a quirk of my body but it does need checking out. Good luck OP.

ZackaryQuack · 29/04/2022 16:06

Thanks everyone for all your replies.
I've filled out an e consult for my gp and also emailed my local sexual health clinic (couldn't get through on the phone)

I haven't had covid @mumsiedarlingrevolta but one of my colleagues mentioned that too. My last jab was December time, so I don't think it's a reaction there either (a few people have mentioned the jab affecting their periods)

No not stupid at all! Yes essentially just Google private gynaecologist and your phone should pick up the ones in your area. It would be around £200 for an initial consultation. The BIG plus side to all of this is that you will be able to see someone relatively quickly, in a matter of days probably.
Personally I find now that if I need to see a specialist I just pay for it from the get go. Especially with the NHS in its current mess. They can always refer you back to the NHS if you need further treatment but to get the ball rolling and to see an expert in the field from the get go, I'd always go private. You should be able to self refer yourself.

Hi everyone,
Just an update, I got a GP Hub appointment this morning after my e consult request to my surgery. I saw the advanced nurse practitioner who went through everything with me, looked through my medical notes, checked my blood pressure and did an abdominal check. She said the second bleed could be a random bleed for no reason whatsoever, could have been a chemical pregnancy, or related or my iron levels still being low.
She's sent those notes to my surgery and asked me to call them next week to have a blood test arranged, she also said to carry on noting my periods, to keep an eye on any other abnormalities in my cycles.
I feel better after talking to her and thank you all for your advice :)

Great news, you’re in the system now. 👍

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 03/05/2022 22:03

Hi everyone, feeling a bit anxious this evening, something or nothing situation.
When I had my appointment the nurse and I discussed what she thought was best course of action and that was blood test and self observation.
However, when I called the Dr's today to get the blood test sorted, the receptionist told me that my notes also say a cervical check. So in have to go through the route of calling back tomorrow morning and trying to get an appointment.

But when I was at my appointment Saturday, this wasn't discussed except for her asking if my smear was up to date... why would she have also put that in?

Jinglebellsoncake · 03/05/2022 22:04

Could it be related to covid vaccine?

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 04/05/2022 07:02

I have read about that possibility @Jinglebellsoncake but I had my last injection before Christmas, so this feels very delayed if it is. Is it something that can happen 3/4 months down the line do you know?

Jinglebellsoncake · 09/05/2022 22:48

@Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese I’m not sure. In my case it was the next day (and still ongoing 10 months later)

Its worth speaking to you gp about :)
