Recurrent thrush - wrong medication?

I've had multiple bouts of thrush over the last few months. I've taken tablets which help but it returns fairly quickly.

The last time I spoke to the Dr she prescribed a different cream (had been using Canesten).

She prescribed Daktarin. I've used it a few times but it really stings / burns.

When I couldn't sleep last night I was looking up treatments...

Apparently for vaginal thrush you should be prescribed gyno-daktarin.

Mine is not that and says 'for fungal infections of skin & nails'. Confused

I'm a bit concerned but obviously can't contact the GP surgery until Tuesday.

Pharmacy is open tomorrow but not sure they can give me a different medication without a prescription.

I'm reluctant to carry on using it if it's not for vaginal thrush.

Any thoughts?

I’ve been given Daktarin too. Pharmacist seemed quite happy with the dispense. I queried it because it says not for internal use and, well, application means it may get inside. She said it was fine.

I’d go to a pharmacy and buy a fluconozole tablet if I were you and some clotrimozole cream. Most pharmacies do their own brands & the tablet seems more effective, for me anyway, for recurring thrush.

Is your DP also being treated?

Thanks another, I'm reassured by that.

I've taken a tablet today so will speak to GP again on Tuesday if I can. (I was told to take one every 3 days).

DP isn't being treated. We've avoided sex mostly but have done it a couple of times when I thought things were clearing up.

I've had thrush many times over the years but this is the most painful I've experienced. Horrible 🙁

I had several bouts of thrush and started taking probiotics for women. I used optibac, but there are a few others. They're not cheap, but seem to have put me back in balance after taking them for a few months, as the thrush hasn't returned.

If your partner isn’t being treated at the same time as you then it’s likely he is passing it back to you each time. Many men don’t have any symptoms.

Thrush as a skin infection can develop in areas of the body such as armpits, groin, between fingers or the skin between your genitals and anus. Some men may not experience any signs or symptoms of Thrush.
