Hi,

I have been diagnosed with PCOS at 17 after two years of irregular cycles, I'm now 21, for the past 6-7 years I have had irregular periods with more than 6 months between each one and very very light flow.

However since January I've had a medium flow, normal cycle where my period comes every 30 days lasting 7 days??? I am so confused because there is nothing that has changed in terms of diet, mental health, weight, nothing at all has changed. So why is it that all of a sudden my menstrual cycle is now normal? I mean I am happy about but really confused.

I had a similar experience, however, my periods became more regular when I had less stress and gained weight, as I was slightly underweight. However, if you have pcos many factors can affect it so it may be hard to know what has changed. For example you may be sleeping better, have less or a different type of stress in your life, eat differently even if it isn't on purpose - for example I didn't realize I had an intolerance until I accidentally stopped eating the thing because I stayed at someone else's house.

I believe there will be something that's made this difference even if it isn't clear what it is.

Symptoms of PCOS can change over time on their own, although it never goes away completely. Some people with PCOS never have period related symptoms, just have symptoms relating to higher testosterone.

It's impossible to say if this is a permanent change though, and I would suspect not.

It's also possible, like a PP says, that you're doing something that has improved your symptoms, you're just not aware of what it is.

I think it's probably totally random. I was diagnosed in my early 30s, very few periods at all until age 48. Then regular as clockwork every month until age 56, so that was fun (not).

Also worth checking if you are actually ovulating. I was diagnosed in my early 40s. Realised before that I wasn’t ovulating each month by using the sympto Thermal method - Basel body thermometer and also mucus tracking. But I still had a bleed. It was just much heavier when I ovulated. And periods were irregular- but not that much.
