Period Clotting and Gushing Perimenopausal Help Is this 'Normal' TMI warning with photos

I am currently have the worse period ever, I'm usually on the heavy side and do pass clots usually thumb nail size always have, I'm not on birth control as never agreed with me.

Used to be very regular every 28 days cramps etc sometimes with migraines, but last 2-3 years I can go several months without then have two close together then nothing again, also very dry down below so believe I'm peri-menopausal had hot flushes but they come and go, haven't had one for several months, can't sleep, anxiety etc etc

Last proper period was November last year, then I had a nasty cold/flu bug (could have been covid but didn't get tested) and this seemed to trigger a period and I bled heavily for 3 days then lightly until day 10 stopped for a week then lightly spotted for 21 days, stopped then on Sunday started spotting, sore boobs etc and properly started on Monday normal period heavy dark red blood few clots etc, Tuesday was very very light but evening and overnight had the most awful back pain, this continued Wednesday morning with added cramps and weird heavy feeling, and then whilst stood making a cup of tea I had such an intense pain in my back, if felt like someone was trying to pull my spine out through my belly button and the whoosh flood gates opened and had such an rush of blood and clots it flooded my pad but the relief was immense, since then I have been gushing/flooding every few hours with large clots, the sensation of it wakes me up at night, I'm wearing Tena lady pants as the sudden gush overwhelms a pad but the bleeding isn't constant as I say it's just every 2 hours or so, but it's not really slowing down or getting lighter in colour and it's day 5 of this now and I'm still passing quite large clots, is this just normal menopausal stuff or should I try and speak to the doctor tomorrow as not sure what they can and would do, sorry for the length of the post but have included three pictures of the clots from the past few days with cotton bud for scale.

TLDR Is this normal clotting for perimenopause should I contact the doctor tomorrow, I hate going/talking to the Doctors so try to avoid it if I can (one photo from yesterday, two from today)

Yes, you need to contact the GP tomorrow.
That’s a lot of clots and you need your iron levels checking. Most probably is peri menopause causing it and they’ll likely offer you a Mirena coil in the first instance, to stop/reduce the bleeding.

Tasteslikeregret · 10/04/2022 15:20

It was normal for me unfortunately but do speak to the Dr if you are concerned.

I will bite the bullet and try getting hold of someone to speak to tomorrow, I doubt the mirena would be an option as I don't want a coil.

Yes, I used to get clots just like those. Agree with pp it's worth contacting the doctor.

ThePoetsWife · 10/04/2022 18:59

I had similar and it was being caused by fibroids. Horrible but it can be sorted so do see the GP.

hopeishere · 10/04/2022 19:03

I used to get those (and bigger) I had fibroids and they were "blocking" the flow out so the blood collected and clotted until they were so big they had to come out. Very disconcerting.

Deffo a trip to the GP.

MossyBottom · 10/04/2022 19:05

I had that around age 40. Mirena completely cured it. Life changing benefits.

itsgettingweird · 10/04/2022 19:05

It's not abnormal but it's not normal iyswim?

I use to bleed like this. I'd lose no blood for 16-24 hours, then cramps and then lose 4/5 of these clots over 20 minutes or so and keep losing more for 5-6 hours.

Then Stop bleeding again.

I'd do this for 25 days in a row and start again a week or so later.

I've been diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis and am waiting for a hysterectomy.

In the meantime I'm on northisterone twice a day and have been for well over a year.

You may find tranexamic acid helps you as that can reduce bleeding.

But definitely see a dr. When I was like this my ferritin dropped to 6. I was very unwell because if this as a side effect.

itsgettingweird · 10/04/2022 19:06

I will add some of my clots were 2-3 times bigger than that. It's not only so awful with the pain etc but soul destroying not being able to even leave the house.

Greyhare · 10/04/2022 21:01

Thank you all, being a woman sucks at timesConfused

What I see on your pics is not just clotting but tissue- it's the womb lining coming away which is normal.

Also, even if it WAS clotting, that's good because otherwise it would all come out in a gush.

It sounds as if you might need treatment for heavy periods so do see your dr.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, just wondering what the doctor said op?
Ive been having very similar since July, I’m 44, but have just been Googling and scaring myself silly about cervical cancer 😞

I agree being a woman sucks and all this bleeding is making me just sit in a corner and cry

AttilaTheMeerkat · 18/06/2024 07:19

Sara

I’ve been there re the crying ((()))

you need to have a gynae referral. I had this and the only way it was resolved was via ablation surgery which is the removal
of the womb lining. In my case such bleeding was caused by peaks and troughs of progesterone and estrogen hormones.

Is that a minor surgery? And does the lining grow back?
Life is so depressing at times. I have work travel coming up next week :(

AttilaTheMeerkat · 19/06/2024 12:36

Its a day case in terms of surgery and no, the lining does not grow back.
