Has anybody experienced similar?

Just wondering if anybody has experienced similar and if so, what was the outcome..

For background, I'm mid 20s. My periods when I was younger were always regular, but since having a DC almost 3 years ago they've not really been the same. It took me a few months after birth for my cycle to get back to normal, but I was having refulr periods (albeit really heavy, painful ones) but the last few cycles have been a bit all over the show Confused really irregular which I put down to stress, but I'm now getting concerned as I'm currently on day 61 and no sign of AF. My cycles have been ranging from between 18-65 days long.

I have booked a doctors appointment but there is a long wait and it isn't until 4th May. Anybody else experienced this?

Typo - meant to say regular periods

I would be asking at this appointment for a referral to a gynaecologist anyway and particularly if the GP has not much of an idea about such things. This has a physical cause, stress in itself does not cause periods to become painful and or irregular in nature. A condition called polycystic ovaries can cause periods to become irregular as does problems with the thyroid gland.

Can't get an appointment until May, no wonder people go to a & e. Sorry op I know that's not helpful. Agree with pp that it needs investigating properly.

I've always had unpredictable periods so yes experienced similar. It's my normal so I don't worry.

when did you last take a pregnancy test?

clkim · 08/04/2022 21:57

I was really hoping to get in the GP sooner because I want to get to the bottom of it. It just seems odd that they've become so irregular, there is a family history of PCOS so I guess I am at increased risk of that?

I've not done a pregnancy test but maybe I should. I have had sex (the withdrawal method) which I know isn't anywhere near 100% but I'm sure the chances are incredibly slim. I'll do one anyway to rule it out

I think a pregnancy test before panicking it's anything more sinister would be wise

The withdrawal method is basically not using contraception at all are you wanting to get pregnant?

NrlySp · 08/04/2022 22:39

It could be PCOS. I had two Children in my 20s.
Never used contraception and couldn’t understand why I didn’t get pregnant again!
Now in 40s and recently found out I have PCOS. I don’t have lots of cysts. But I don’t ovulate every month but still get bleeding.
It was blood tests and my reaction drinking sugar water after fasting blood sugars that lead to my diagnosis.
You will probably need a gynecologist. I think the gp would have dismissed me as it took 3 gynecologists to diagnose me (I’m not in the Uk)
While you wait for your appointment it might be worth tracking your Basel body temperature and mucus - that will show if your are ovulating or not. Or your body is trying to ovulate. Taking Charge of your fertility is a really helpful book.
Some doctors will look at charts and other won’t. But by the time you get to see a gynie at least you will have a picture of what’s going on.
Kindara is a good app to log your information

Mmmmm 61 day cycle you say? Mid 20s?

Sex without contraception?

Yes, it's a mystery....

greyspottedgoose · 09/04/2022 05:55

Have you had your covid vaccinations? My period have gone from regular to all over the show and my flow is completely different since having my first

clkim · 09/04/2022 13:27

@greyspottedgoose Yes I have, I'm double vaccinated. Now that I think of it, it's since then that my periods have changed..

It could be PCOS. I have this and I keep it under control through diet and supplements. When I don’t, my cycle length increases massively and my twin sister who has the same didn’t have a period for two years after she put weight on and this exacerbated her PCOS.
It could be the vaccine too but I’d get the doctor to look into PCOS just in case, especially if it’s in the family. Do you have any other symptoms?

clkim · 09/04/2022 13:56

@Hopingforbetterluck No I don't have any other symptoms, just the irregular periods atm

I had a blood test around 5 years ago I think to test for PCOS and I didn't have it then, is it something that can develop over time?

I only have irregular periods, no other symptoms. My blood work is normal too, it was diagnosed through a scan and the fact that my periods are irregular. Did they do a scan in the past to check your overies? I think you can also develop it after having a child.
