Peri-menopause

Hi

I'm going through the wary stages of menopause and am on HRT.

Over two years ago it started with sporadic periods. I then started get warm overwhelming flushes and then one evening I fainted. I'd a number of tests done in hospital including a brain scan, various blood tests and everything that was done proved negative. I wasn't allowed to drive until all tests were completed and negative.

Everything settled until recently when I was under stress at work when I started experiencing these warm overwhelming flushes once again and yesterday passed out. I have been given a 2mg dose of Elleste duet. So going to see how that goes and getting a blood pressure monitor next week.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced fainting in their peri-menopause stages. It's driving me mad not knowing what is happening with my body and adding to my stress as I feel I'm not in control of myself.

Please let me know if anyone has experienced anything similar.

Thank you

Hello! I was just searching 'perimenopause blackout' and your thread popped up! I've just had what I guess I'd describe as a "funny turn" at work. I'm peri-menopausal. How are you doing? Have they got to the bottom of it?

Justme01 · 06/04/2022 18:41

Hi, thank you for replying.

The blackouts stopped. However I again started in January started getting the odd funny turn in the form of light headedness. To be honest I was so stressed at work. It triggered it all again. Anyway the past two weeks it's stopped...helped by changing my job. But also the doctor has changed my HRT and I feel so much better. How did your funny turn feel? Did you faint? It's so scary. I thought I was never going to feel better.

Good to hear you're feeling better. It only lasted a few seconds max, everything went black and I was confused. Smashed something at work, not sure how. Didn't actually faint. Was very emotional afterwards. Wondering if it was low blood pressure. I'm considering going to the doctor to ask about HRT. Perimenopause is making life really shit right now. Am trying to combat it by lots of sleep, no booze and exercise, but that only does so much.

I totally get where you are coming from. Feeling confused, dizzy and disoriented is scary. I thought I was dying.

I never experienced the awful way I was feeling like the past couple of years. You nearly think you are going mad as well.

Honestly the 2mg of elleste duet has started to help me.

I've cut down on booze as well. Though I'm having one glass tonight.

I'm glad you replied because I felt I was the only one going through a weird peri menopause lol.

And i definitely have had weird turns without the passing out.

How are you feeling now?

You're definitely not the only one! I'm so pleased I found your post.

Hope you enjoyed your glass of wine!
I'm feeling so much better now thank you. It's good to hear that elleste duet has helped you. Was it hard to get from the doctor? Perimenopause is making me feel so unhinged. I think it's time to get some help.

I had a 'funny turn' at work and had to get someone to sit with me. I didn't faint, but I got really hot and it felt like everything was closing in. I was worried about having a heart attack! I have had a lot of work stress recently so I think that plus the anxiety which started with peri is not a good combination.

Justme01 · 06/04/2022 23:09

I do think that work stress doesn't help. It just adds to the mix.

I felt very under pressure from work in a pandemic and trying to learn a new role. My hormones all over the place, periods sporadic. All these things just add to the confusion.

Id definitely speak to your GP. Getting on the right HRT will help. I've started meds for blood pressure today though it's only boarder line high.

Try not to stress yourself out with what happened. It will get sorted in the end and you will start to feel some normality again. It's just about working out what's going on hormonally.

I'm only starting to feel normal after 2 years. You will to 😊 just try to relax and definitely speak to you GP x
