Bladder issues after surgery

I apologise in advance if this thread becomes tmi

I underwent a posterior & anterior prolapse repair a couple of weeks ago
Since surgery I've had major bladder issues after my op I had the catheter removed and was sent home and was unable to pee, just a dribble it got so painful I ended up being rush to a&e
They did a bladder scan and I was retaining 1000mls + so was re Cathated and sent home to return in 10 days to have to removed and have a TWOC (trail without catheter) during the TWOC I was able to go to the toilet and empty my bladder to be able to go home without it , Altho now home without it on day 2 almost three the bladder spasms and pain in my urethra are dreadful I can empty my bladder however the pain to do so is dreadful and takes all of my energy to wee, I have been treated with anti biotics for a uti they're saying they think my urethra is iterated from surgery plus catheter , I feel so rubbish I guess I wanted to ask has anyone else experienced issues bladder wise after surgery ? How long did it take to return to normal? Doctors seem to not be bothered and I don't want to go back to a&e and have another catheter fitted as I can empty my bladder it's just super painful it's like being in Labour!! Only way I can describe it, 🙁

I would go back to a and e as you need medical attention. Do not put up with being in pain.

The hospital should not have sent you home without evidence of you being able to pee and poo without difficulty post your repair op.

Were you not given a follow up appointment with the department or people who performed your operation?. I’d also be contacting PALS within the hospital, they could be helpful to you here.

I had something similar but different.

After surgery I had a catheter and was unable to wee without it for around 2 weeks. I had it removed and re-inserted about 3 times. Each time, I was allowed home with the catheter, then after a few days re-admitted to see if I could wee. (This was privately so I didn't go to &E but back to a room in the hospital.)

When I could wee, it was very slow for some time and a bit stop-start.

I had no pain however.

There can be issues if they have done you up too tightly.

Please go back but best to contact the PA of the surgeon and ask for advice/ an appt to discuss.

Thank you so much for replying

I did speak to surgeon today, because I can wee they've said it's ok to be at home but the spasms are just hard work,

He said it can be common after an op to have bladder retention, and bladder spasms but no idea how long it lasts and I have no idea what is normal and what isn't I had no bladder issues before this

I think I've managed to get that part over with as I've been watching how much drinking and I am going for a wee enough now but since I've had the catheter out I'm just so uncomfortable everytime I wee it's like cisitus / with bladder spasms so hard to explain, 😫

I would speak to them again and get a second opinion.

Have you tried weeing in the bath or shower, OP? That can sometimes help. People advise pouring a jug over yourself while going over the toilet but I could never work out how that would work!

MummaL32 · 24/03/2022 12:33

I have been able to go in a small bath today it's not half as bad as yesterday so must be a healing thing I guess , just hope it doesn't return to full force,
Thank you ladies x

I had bladder spasms after a hysterectomy and they told me to take buscopan and they worked. They were giving me one three times a day and I continued at home until things settled down.
