Hi all

I have no one else to ask this question to and Google is giving me varied results!

I recently started using tampons (my DM was very against them when I was growing up and periods are a very taboo subject). My periods have always been super heavy especially since having my DS a few years ago so I gave them a go and they have been so much better comfort wise!!

However I am finding that they make me very dry and 'rub' when I take them out which then causes it to sting when I go to the loo etc. it's defo not a UTI unless I get one every time I put the first tampon in every month on the dot (also done a test!) but it is uncomfortable.

Is this just because I'm using the wrong type or am I doomed to have to go back to pads Confused

Again I have no one else to ask this question too! For context I'm 25 and not normally prone to dryness!!

I read that tampons soak up all vaginal moisture as it were, not just the blood. I stopped using them for the same issues you are having. I use period pants and do not experience this anymore.

You might need a lower absorbency. Try a tampon for a lighter flow. Or a moon cup - they don't cause dryness.

Wrinklepicker · 22/03/2022 19:07

Are you using the right one for your flow?

Duracellbunnywannabe · 22/03/2022 19:08

If you are using the correct level of absorption and only change them when necessary this shouldn’t be happening. If it is then you need medical advice.

No one here is going to share their personal experiences in case you are a troll.

squiddybear · 22/03/2022 19:26

@Duracellbunnywannabe I wasn't after personal experiences just whether it could be absorbency.

I always use the green ones which I think is for heavy periods however I will try the one down and see if they help.

When I'm peak flow they are fine and it doesn't happen as much but I do change them every few hours so maybe that doesn't help

Sounds like you’d be better using the size down and leaving them till they need changing. If you’re worried about leaks you can always double up with a pant liner till you get to know what works. In theory they can stay in up to eight hours, unless they need to be changed earlier.
