Breast clinic referral

I’ve had pain in my left breast for just over a month now. I saw a doctor within a week of the pain starting who checked my breast and said she couldn’t really feel anything and thought it was muscular. She didn’t exactly reassure me when she turned round to the junior doctor who was with her and said “are you any good at checking breasts as I’m not?”. Anyway, she told me to come back if the pain continued but also said my age (I’m 25) and my family history goes in my favour in regards to BC. So the pain subsided a little and then 2 weeks ago it started again. I saw the doctor yesterday who could feel lumpy areas within both my breasts and referred me to breast clinic. She said she wasn’t overly concerned but wanted to refer me anyway for peace of mind. My mum has fibrocystic breasts, so I’m trying to tell myself that that’s what it is, but I can’t help but worry. I have 2 children, aged 2 and 4 and I breastfed them both for just over a year. The pain is more like a dull ache until it is pressed or one of my children lean on it, and then it hurts. If the lumps are pressed it’s really tender.

Just looking for abit of reassurance.

Trying to reassure you a bit, at your age I reckon it's hormonal. I've had lumpy boobs all my life & they're fine. Do check them regularly. You did the right thing getting help.

Thank you. She did say she thought it was fibrocystic breast tissue and suggested coming off the depo as it can cause changes in the breasts. I’m trying not to worry but it’s so hard.

I have had really lumpy breast tissue all my adult life (I'm 49). I had lumpy bits checked when I was your age that were nothing concerning and went away over time. Poking and prodding them made them quite tender.

I recently had a cancerous tumour removed and it was very obviously different to my normal breast tissue. It felt very different, was moveable and not painful.

You should get your breast checked out for sure but there's a very high likelihood that it's nothing. I hope this gives you some reassurance.

Thank you for your reply Flowers

I’m sorry to hear you had to have a tumour removed! Your message did give me some reassurance atleast. It’s just this pain has been constant now for 2 weeks. I don’t have periods as I am on the injection (which I’ve now been told to come off due to breast changes). I’ve been taking regular pain relief but it doesn’t seem to be helping. I know you said you felt no pain, so I’m just wondering did you come across the tumour just from a regular breast check? And was it something you noticed yourself or was it a doctor?

@cottonbud25 I found my lump myself.

The only thing that has ever made my breasts ache was hormonal changes, pregnancy being the worst.

Good luck x

I just posted that I’d found a small pea sized lump and I had breast pain in one breast a while back too. I’m going to call my GP first thing tomorrow. Trying not to worry but it’s hard not to. I’m 45

Sending hugs to you my love Flowers
I have read somewhere that if you have fibrocystic breasts then you may find pea sized lumps also. Book in with your doctor and try not to worry!

My appointment is Wednesday, quite surprised just how quick the referral went through!
