Any success stories of the Mini pill for intermenstrual bleeding?

Any success stories of the Mini pill for Intermenstual bleeding?

To cut a long story short have been having Intermenstrual/irregular bleeding for 18 months. Started 1 year after the birth of my first child.

Smear 2 years ago was clear. Doctor not concerned. Managed to get a transvaginal ultrasound as the bleeding was driving me
Mad. Came back clear.

Gp again reluctantly sent me to gynae.
Consultant not worried (did a quick speculum check) and sent me home with the mini pill, Desogestrel, as can’t have combined due to another health issue.

Been on it 6 weeks. Took it for a few days and my bleeding stopped! Maybe it was coincidence but either way I was chuffed.

Two weeks later I had the worst cramps and heavy bleeding including passing what can only be described as pieces of liver looking clots.

This went on for 15 days, then stopped.
Been no bleeding until today when it’s started up again 😩

I don’t know what else I can do here because GP said it’s one of those things! And pill could make it worse! I can’t do this for another 18 months. It’s really annoying me.

They’ve told me to preserve with pill for six months 😩 six weeks has been hard enough. If not, I’ll have to try a coil.

Is it normal to just try to mask the bleeding and not actually find the cause? They are making out that a transvaginal scan and a smear two years ago is enough to say nothing dodgy is going on.

Sorry for the long post, just looking for people who have had any similar issues and the pill has finally helped?

Dreading my next smear next year- can’t see how it’ll be normal with all this happening. X

I had the same issues as you - convinced myself something was seriously wrong - how could passing clots the size of your hand be normal?
Anyway, had tests/scans etc and FINALLY had the mirena coil fitted and omg it was a game changer!
It’s not easy to start with as you will bleed for quite a while BUT approx 4 months later my periods became lighter and lighter and now I don’t need to use any sanitary products at all!
It sounds like you will benefit from it so if you get the chance go for it!
Yes I put weight on with it, but it gave me my life back x

The mini pull did eventually see me having a period maybe only every 3 months but it took months and months for me to stop bleeding
I gave up on it last time I tried it
No other advice really other than it probably will work if you can stick with it

Thank you both that’s really reassuring!! I’m with you @AiryFairyLights I’ve convinced myself the worst because no way can things be normal when you bleed more than you don’t bleed!! Did you go
Straight for the coil or try the pill first?
@fedup078 I’d be happy with that outcome if it stops the bleeding for the majority!!
A friends said they bled badly first few months then after that- nothing! Then I read a few horror stories on here and thought oh god has anyone else had success with it! X

May I ask how old you are now?. I've had similar issues re bleeding and the cause was constant fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone levels.

I would go back to the GP and ask them to refer you back to a gynae (this previously gynae was not thorough enough either in terms of investigation).

Its all very well treating the symptoms but you need to know what the cause is. Its not normal and its not something you should just have to put up with, these problems impact on day to day life and if you're bleeding all the time anaemia could happen. The mirena coil is not suitable for all women in that some do have problems with it post insertion re continuous bleeding. Its also offered too because its cheap.

Any test done over 6 months ago should be discounted, you in any case need up to date test results.

This is my experience too. I've been on the mini pill for 8months now and it is only now that things seem to be settling down. I was bleeding every second week up to about maybe 2 months ago?

Im 33. I’m still under gynae so don’t need re referred, and spoke to them last week for a telephone review, will be seen in person again in a few months but no appointment yet. He said he does colposcopy clinics but doesn’t feel that I need one. So I didn’t really feel like I could argue anymore on that one. I also asked if there was any other investigations I needed as was worried about masking any problems and he said no, pill then coil if the pill is no good x

Did you go
Straight for the coil or try the pill first?

@Mrsworried1 I went straight for the coil as the pill never agreed with me when I was younger. I would’ve been around your age when I first had the coil - im 47 now so have had it replaced a few times.
I had it out for about 6 months (due to other things going on) and couldn’t wait to get it back in again x
